Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, met with President Obama today at the White House to discuss the national debt, but the main political story of the day, the Massachusetts Senate race, was Topic A when he spoke to reporters.
When asked about the Massachusetts Senate race and the future of health care reform, Voinovich said he is still opposed to the pending legislation.
Thats out of the question -- I am not a vote for the health care bill, period, he told reporters.
Voinovich said he discussed with the president his idea for a bipartisan commission to focus on bringing down the national debt and increasing revenue. He said Obamas main concern with that suggestion is whether there is support for it.
Voinovich said that while many people are opposed to that, he asks, what are you for?
Thats the dilemma the president has -- hed like to do the commission but the concern he has is he wont have the support thats necessary to get the commission done in the Congress, he said. And if he doesnt get some kind of consensus on a commission than hes going to have to move forward to do something as an alternative to address the problem that I believe would not be as successful as if we could do it on a bipartisan basis.
There has been speculation that since the moderate Republican senator is not seeking reelection, he may vote with the Democrats on health care reform. Asked today if he discussed health care with the president, Voinovich indicated he had not.

Glad to hear him clear this up. Of course he’s a politician and he could go back on his word in a hearbeat.
we’ll see after the WH slaps the nelson on him
Hey Obama, youre great and imma let you finish, but your healthcare plan is not the greatest of all time.
With Scott Brown’s victory tonight, no GOP senator is going to let Reid off the hook, especially in light of the Christmas power play and rampant corruption.
Moreover, there is NO way that Snowe or Collins would undermine newly elected Sen Brown, since they are delighted to have another GOP senator from New England.
A political earthquake is about to hit DC. Divine intervention.
I heard Laura Ingraham getting het up about Voinovich’s possible switch to the other side. Since her source was Michelle Malkin, I decided to hold off on getting upset myself. Enough said.
Sort of like the fog that allowed the Continental Army to escape across the East River at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights. That also was Divine and allowed the army to fight another day and thus we have the U.S. of A. today.
Those of us from Ohio that used to back the Republicans have a name for Voinovich...
LIAR!!!
Ol’ George will vote with obama in a second. Don’t count on him for *ANYTHING*...
You can bring down the debt without inceasing revenue. Are the Republicans going to support tax increases??? These guys are way out of touch.
