Is George Voinovich going to screw the GOP on health care?

Sorry, I couldn’t word it any more politely than that. But the very prospect of GOP Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio bailing on his party to cast a swan song 60th vote for the government health care takeover bill makes me want to spit nails.

Voinovich is meeting with President Obama at 11:30am Eastern today in the Oval Office.

Nate Nelson at the Rust Belt blog notes that since Voinovich has already announced his retirement, he has nothing to lose. He’s infamous for turning into a blubbering mass on the Senate floor — while crusading for the illegal alien amnesty and voting against U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, for example. Remember this infamy?

Sure never underestimate just how bad the Federal Government has become. It is going to take a lot more than Brown.

Funny business like that will spark a populist revolt and a tidal wave in November.

Uh, no.

Desperation via the WH. Ignore it. Cleveland Clinic is the largest private employer in Cleveland, Ohio. This plan would destroy it.

Without the Cleveland Clinic, which is in the city, proper...the place becomes..................DETROIT.

Voinovich is a very popular former 2 term mayor. I wouldn’t put much money on this, provided GV hasn’t hit his head on a wall someplace.

heh heh heh. leave it to some crybaby like GV to hose us.

Well, we’ll see. Hussein can offer all sorts of goodies for this clown, but then again, he has to go home—retired or not—and if he has an ounce of gray matter, he’ll realize Hussein doesn’t really care one whit about him.

Interesting times we live in.

If Voinovich would do something like that, Ohio would never forgive him. I realize he’s a RINO, but never thought him to be a far left socialist loon...at least not often...

Psst... Brown is a RINO.

Though, under these dire circumstances (impending Obamacare) a necessary one. Hopefully, we’ll remember to keep his feet to the fire in the future.

SEN. VOINOVICH STATEMENT ON SEN. REID HEALTH CARE BILL

November 20, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH) issued the following statement today on U.S. Senator Harry Reid’s (D-NV) health care proposal:
“Americans watching the health care debate in Washington should know that the actions of Congress will have far-reaching consequences on their lives and our entire economy.
“The two-thousand page, two-trillion dollar bill proposed by Sen. Reid cuts Medicare, raises taxes, increases premiums, hurts states and threatens the health choices that millions currently enjoy. This is not reform, and it is not what the American people are asking for. That is why I cannot support Sen. Reid’s health care bill and will not support the vote on the motion to proceed to the bill.
“At a time when Ohio's unemployment rate is at 10.5 percent, new health care legislation should first do no harm to the economy. Sen. Reid’s bill is full of budget gimmicks and will cost Americans $2.5 trillion over the next decade, ignoring the fact that we cannot even take care of our current obligations. The bill will also raise taxes on Americans by half a trillion dollars while cutting Medicare by nearly the same amount – hurting our nation’s seniors. And, CBO says this bill will increase federal health costs, not lower them like health care reform was supposed to achieve.
“Just this week, our national debt surpassed the $12 trillion mark. My colleagues know we face a fiscal train wreck, but are refusing to look at the health care debate from a financial viewpoint. As a nation, we already spend $2.2 trillion annually on health care. We must ask ourselves, ‘What is sustainable?’
“Paying for health care reform by placing additional financial burdens on American families and small businesses will only further impede our ability to compete in the global marketplace and, ultimately, our economic recovery.
“Additionally, I cannot support Sen. Reid’s proposal because I believe any health reform bill must protect all human life from conception to natural death and am adamantly against allowing federal funding for abortions.”

Amazing. We’re on the verge of putting a big nail in the coffin of Obama care and a Republican might sell us out? Sigh.

Maybe Dems who want to be re-elected, especially those in the House, will also switch their votes.

“It is going to take a lot more than Brown.”

We all know it is just the first step. We are excited about Brown because it was an unexpected jump start on the 2010 mid-terms.

Can't trust a RINO, but here's what it says later in the blog:

"Update: Readers who have reached Voinovich’s staff says he remains opposed to the health care bill."

That at least gives us hope that these 41 votes (with Scott Brown) will hold.

If Voinovich does that, I will invest in a tinfoil hat.

Many of been saying all along the fix is in. No matter what, the Bill would be passed. Guess I was trying to ignore it.

Just speculation at this point on Voinovich’s part.

I’m sure if he does vote yes, a big personal windfall will be granted to him.

Sad day but again, the fix was in all along.

The consequences for him would be severe than for Nelson, which is at least a rat. Most of all, he should explain his fellow citizens why he voted against before he voted for the bill.
