Coakley Abuses Martin Luther King Breakfast to Campaign

Did Martha Coakley misuse tax exempt resources to advance her candidacy?

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Breakfast Committee appears to be a nonprofit educational organization whose purpose is to commemorate the birth of Martin Luther King. This organization invited Martha Coakley to talk about Dr. King, but she instead abused the event to promote her candidacy for U.S. Senate. Coakley's betrayal of this organization's trust, her possible misuse of tax exempt resources for electioneering, and her role in the Amirault scandal all underscore her total lack of fitness for any position of public trust or responsibility. (Martha, did Martin Luther King also advocate judicial lynchings such as the Scottsboro Boys or, in your case, the Amiraults?)

Coakley, in her remarks at the breakfast, linked her candidacy to the legacy of King and Edward M. Kennedy. "If you send me to the Senate, I will be guided by those values," she said. "It's not about me anymore. It never was. It's what Martin Luther King stood for. It's what Ted Kennedy stood for."

..."I didn't realize that this was a rally for Martha. And I thought it was inappropriate that she started asking for votes," Brown told reporters, according to State House News Service.

Brown Accuses Coakley of Politicizing MLK Event adds,

Indeed, the Breakfast Committee tells ABC5 that it invited Coakley to speak as Attorney General, not as a campaigning candidate. But Democrats weren’t about to pass up an opportunity to campaign...”

This underscores the fact that Coakley abused the Breakfast Committee's hospitality and trust for her personal benefit, and therefore her total lack of character, ethics, and integrity.
