The IDF Field Hospital in Haiti has delivered its first baby, and the mother was so happy that she called him Israel. Mother and son are doing well.
Gynecologist Dr. Shrir Dor, an IDF Major General, said that after the birth, the person who accompanied her came to bless her, and said he thought the baby should be named Israel. The mother was really happy so they named him that, as a way to remember the first baby that was born in the IDF Field Hospital."
The event was one of the happier occasions as rescue workers estimate that 200,000 people were killed in the earthquake that devastated the island nation.
Dr. Dor said that the field hospital's delivery room is excellent [and] is essentially like any delivery room, even though it is in a soccer field.
He said that the mother "gave birth, a normal delivery, a cute and healthy baby. Essentially, everything went well."
Midwife Major Efrat Shrir commented, We departed on this mission with the sense of dedication and purpose, with a true will to help people. So for me, the fact that we were able to help this woman is a real contribution.

Israel, one of the few countries that actually know what they’re doing over there.

“The IDF’s field hospital in the Haitian capital worked at full capacity throughout Sunday, treating a relentless stream of victims from what a senior IDF medical officer described as “the war outside.”
Israeli rescue team in Haiti extricates a man from under rubble
Overnight Saturday, in what staff described as one of the most fulfilling moments of their work, the Israeli doctors delivered a baby boy, whose mother, Gubilande Jean Michel, promptly declared would be named “Israel.” ...”
What does it matter that the medical team was Israeli? Couldn’t a Muslim team have done just as good a job? What do the Israelis have that Muslims don’t?
I mean except for sanitation, supplies, general hygiene, respect for life, basic knowledge, experience, common sense and medical training?
Ah, a ray of hope and light in the most destitute of lands. How's that feel for you, Obama?
he sure wishes every new baby Haitian would be named Obama
I mean except for sanitation, supplies, general hygiene, respect for life, basic knowledge, experience, common sense and medical training?
No, the muslims have all that as well. The one thing they're missing is the willingness to help save lives. I would be interested to find out just how many muslim or arab countries sent aid like this. And let's not forget that some muslim countries have turned down Israeli aid after terrible disasters, like I believe, after the tsunami.
Finally, remember that Al Zwahiri, Bin Laden's second in command, is a pediatrician!
Mark
I just saw that on TV.
GOD Bless the IDF for what their doing in Haiti.
Where are the muslim nations or Cuba?
your forgot compassion and a belief that all lives matter.
I have a hard time believing that you’d find a Taliban doctor to match an Israeli one...
My brother is in Iraq, and one of the things that the Americans do now is provide emergency medical service, and he said one of the worst he saw was a car accident in which a little girl broke her neck. The family of the girl decided that since she was basically ruined anyway (as far as they could tell after the Americans stabilized her) that they didn’t want any more medical care. So they refused further treatment that would have saved her and let a little girl die. What’s worse is that our troops had to let them do it. Inshallah they say...
Take THAT Hugo Chavez and Imadinnerjacket!
Muslim suicide bombers don’t have “respect for life” - even, purposely sending children as suicide bombers.
Israel has been doing for many decades, esp. in Africa. They also have a very highly rated rescue team for collapsed buildings.
To them it is just another day helping humanity.
Don’t forget the aquiducts! And law and order. You know what a mess that was, Reg.
Nice story, thanks for posting it!
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
