Brown Supporters: The Most Motivated Voters Ever? [Home made signs!]
96.9 Boston Talks ^ | 1/17/2010 | Michael Graham

Posted on 01/17/2010 6:40:57 AM PST by Timeout

I’ve never seen anything like it.

I ran campaigns for six years, and I’ve been watching campaigns for years more, and I’ve never seen the “We’ve got to win this race” attitude from regular voters like I’m seeing for Scott Brown.

In a typical campaign, the hardest part is getting people to actually do things—show up at events, make phone calls, etc. They all talk a good game, but what you usually end up with is a hard core group of activists begging folks just to put a sign in their yards. That’s why money is so important—so campaigns can pay people to do the work. Even Obama had to use money to get his “community activist” campaign off the ground in early 2008.

Scott Brown is having the opposite problem. People are begging for stuff to do, and the campaign can’t keep up with the demand. On Saturday, driving between Ashland and Littleton, I saw more people displaying home made signs than printed ones.

“Home made signs?” I can’t tell you how astonishing that is to a paid political consultant. I was talking to a pal of mine still in the GOP political biz, and he was blown away.

There are home made Scott Brown signs all over this state. Some are magic marker on poster board, others are hand painted and carefully designed, but they all show the same thing: Brown’s voters are the most motivated voters I’ve ever seen in a campaign. Even more motivated than Obama voters a year ago.

I'd love to see this phenomenon all over the country for the fall campaigns. Go, Scott!

Let me add to that:

Despite all their venom toward the Tea Party movement, there has been one thing the media couldn’t help themselves offering positive comments about: the hand made signs. Yes, some of them focus on the few “Hitler” signs, etc. But the home made signs definitely made an impression.

My thought is, perhaps Republicans should spend less on those printed signs, save the money for ads. I think, if they simply tell their supporters to put home made signs in their yards/cars, it’ll happen. And it makes a great impression.

"Yes, some of them focus on the few “Hitler” signs, etc. But the home made signs definitely made an impression. "

But we all know that BECAUSE the homemade signs are having an impact - as are the tea parties - is the reason such a big to-do is being made about the "hitler" signs by the LSM...it's all they've got.

The irony is, most of the hitler signs are TRUE...lilke this one.

They’ll be getting death threats from the printers union.

This is turning into a tsunami.

I like the poll on their website. It mocks her campaign’s stupid statements:

What will compel people to vote for Martha Coakley?

Scott Brown is chummy with notorious Yankee fan, Curt Schilling.
People can relate to harassment from invisible stalkers.
We can finally eradicate the scourge of Catholics working in emergency rooms.

What the Mass race has done is laser-focus the nationwide disgruntlement about what the Dem majority has been doing. “What kind I do to stop’em?” OK, I’ll tell you. Elect Brown overwhelming and send them a message. Send him a few bucks! It’s like focusing a magnifying glass on one tiny spot. You can burn down a house that way!

LOL! Like when some union goons showed up one day at the back door, when the supermarket employees where my wife works were voting on whether or not to keep the union. My wife told them to "Get the hell out of here!"

This is what happens when you push a free people too far.

It’s the reason I tangle it up around here with the Glenn Beck devotees, who insist Obama is going to get away with God knows what.

We’ve had a 200+ year taste of freedom. We aren’t going to give it up this fast. Look at the depressive state of the economy...wouldn’t that mean we would be willing to give in to the nanny state? I don’t see it, do you?

People are fighting back harder against gov’t than we probably have in a hundred plus years. I see NO sign the American people are caving in to this serfdom. What I see is the American people pushing back....HARD. As much as Obama has been over-estimated, the American people have been underestimated.

Even in liberal Massachusetts, the people have been pushed too far.

Thus, the battle has been joined. They should have let us sleep, instead of poking that stick in our cage.

Sorry, I don’t see that at my work place. The Union fools still praise their Kenyan thug. They still hate Bush, Palin, and Reagan.

Isn’t it a violation of McCain-Feingold to make and display a sign? In fact, isn’t it a violation of McCain-Feingold to VOLUNTEER for a campaign?

Ya know, I hadn’t thought about it. But I bet there’s something in those secret health care negotiations that carves out a “no hand made signs” clause for the printers union!

From the Comments section:

"People are finally rejecting the Stockholm Syndrome mentality that has existed in this state for conservatives going farther back to even before I was born. I spoke with some people yesterday as I was out holding Brown signs who said it was the first time in their lives that they felt that their vote could actually make a difference in this state. That tells you something. The hardest part was just convincing people that it could truly happen. It's more than just a vote for Scott Brown. It's a vote for them too.

Newburyport is a liberal city. But I saw the tide start to turn when my own sister who lives there, put up a Scott Brown sign in her front yard (next to the "Save Darfur" one). Miracles do happen."

More hand made signs:

Read the stories at that blog: On Saturday, Coakley had to make her way through a throng of chanting, sign-waving Brown supporters just to get into her own campaign event!
