My husband and son saw Book of Eli last night. They're pretty hard movie critics, and they had read the reviews, but after seeing the movie decided the negative reviews must be due to anti-religious bias. They thought it was very well done.
I agree. Up is the only movie on that list I’ve seen and I thought it was great. My kids loved it, too. And I stayed awake during it! That’s how I judge a good movie, if it can keep me awake. Very few can.
Go see The Blind Side.
True story.
Sandra Bullock is good as usual.
I never go to the movies but saw this movie - twice.
It’s will lift your spirits.
I can’t believe “Moon” isn’t in there.
What an extraordinary film.
We saw this one twice, and it was well worth the price of admission. The second time we took 2 of our 10 year old grandsons with us, and we laughed a bunch more at the funny lines because they laughed out loud. I was concerned because of the ‘sexual reference’ at the end of the film, which is not offensive but I wondered how I would respond to the boys if they had questions. They are very smart boys but they are isolated(intentionally)from the teen culture of today. When the mother speaks the warning to Michael, my grandson turned to me and asked “Grammy, does that mean she doesn’t want him to get married.?” I said yes Jordan, that is exactly what she means. And then I breathed easier.
Either way I was wondering if any other FReepers saw it and what they thought.
I might rent some of the movies on this list.
Medved is my main source when deciding what movies to see or rent. I’ve seen many excellent movies he recommended which never even played on the big screen, two examples: Rosenstrasse and Ishpuzin (both foreign films).
He specifically looks for movies with a moral tale (good triumphing over evil or at least evil getting its just desserts) and he points out which movies his children liked (although his children are probably teens or adults by now) and which his wife liked. His wife does not like gratuitous violence (neither do I) and he mentions that gratuitous violence might offend some. I steer clear of those movies.
From time to time, I go his website and update my list of movies to see based on his recommendations.
It was a surprisingly enjoyable and fun movie (to me.)

OH - ROFL! So good! Thanks for that anecdote.
Julie and Julia is very good, albiet a “Chick Flick.” I think Meryl Steep’s performance as Julia Child was exceptional and may earn her an Oscar nomination.
Well, the rest of the story is that they did talk about the pain her actions would cause for the entire rest of the night. There always has to be one ‘private part’ line in every movie. We saw Planet 51 with another 10 year old grandson and the ‘line’ in that movie was “That is a strange place for an antenna”. If I never hear that line again it will not be too soon. (We have 10 grandchildren, 4 of whom are 10).
Got to be fun to have that many grandchildren - who are always (well, usually always) a delight! Glad they have you in their family....
Sandra Bullock won the Golden Globe award for her role in THE BLIND SIDE...

OH she did???? Thank you so much for this ping and this news....(since I don’t watch those awards shows).....how nice for Sandra Bullock to have received some recognition for her role in The Blind Side!
Woohoo!
“Book of Eli” was superb.........intense, “surprise twist” ending...........but superb. Highly recommend it.
Thanks for the recommendation.
