BOSTON Could the fate of the health care bill, its passage or defeat, hinge on a sports gaffe?
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Democrat vying to succeed the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and to cast the 60th vote for the bill, may be about to find out. She is being roundly mocked in this Red Sox-crazy state for mistakenly suggesting in a radio interview that Curt Schilling, the former Red Sox pitcher, is a Yankee fan.
Mr. Schilling was accorded near-heroic status here for guiding the team to victory over their arch-rivals, the Yankees, in a key game in 2004 while his own sock was literally bloody from an ankle injury. The radio exchange was quickly blasted to reporters by gleeful Republicans.

Coakely is a brittle elitist. She’s looking baddddd....
How many more constituant groups will this lady insult? She is not just a bad candidate she is an idiot.
The NY slimes jumping on this reflects the ‘operation protect Obama’ mode the media has moved into.
The meme has now become that Coakley is simply an unbelievably bad candidate and her loss wouldn’t reflect on Zero or his policies.
Just wait until she starts making Irish jokes to win the Boston vote.
lol!
Haw. Haw.
Great minds Freep alike.
I was tempted to post an image of the KKT, as well. Such a flawed candidate that even the corrupt and the stupid, alike, could not be bothered to vote for her. This woman is Massachusetts flawed candidate.
I thought the idea was too “inside baseball” for FR, at large; Only absolute political junkies and FRee Staters would get the reference.
I qualify as both.
Hah! The Coakley model of the Gaffe-O-Matic is just the latest in the ‘Rat series as they seek perfection in the field of gaffes. The previous model, “The Biden” was pretty good, but I think the Coakley has a few extra features, since it comes with the auto-thug feature that pummels anything in her way.
WTG, Mr. Schilling!
Croakley looks too much like Geraldine Ferraro to me. Yuk!
“Just wait until she starts making Irish jokes to win the Boston vote.”
John McCormack ought to ask this genius if she knows any good Nantucket limericks?
I'VE BEEN CALLED A LOT OF THINGS
But never, and I mean never, could anyone ever make the mistake of calling me a Yankee fan. Well, check that, if you didnt know what the hell is going on in your own state maybe you could

Full disclosure: The NY Times is the parent company of the Boston Globe-Democrat and owns 17 per cent of the Boston Red Sox (though maybe are trying to sell the share?)
“cheered the Baltimore Ravens for scoring a “football”. “
KKT really really shot a home run with that gem!
The MSM is simply getting their “it had nothing to do with Obama” narrative in place before Coakley loses.
I love that interview. You can literally sense/imagine her handlers in the background jumping up and down waving NOOOOOOOOOOOOO after she says Schilling is a Yankees fan the second time.
Reminds me of the “Dukakis in the tank photo”.
(Joe Castiglione)
“And Scott Brown is the new Senator from Massachusetts. Can YOU believe it!”
(Joe Buck)
“Sane Massachusetts voters have longed to hear it. Scott Brown is the winner of the 2010 election!”
(based on their calls of the final out 04 WS)

Classic.
This fiasco may be enough to push Curt into politics.
