[Editor's note: Protected by a bodyguard and twelve armed campus security officers, David Horowitz spoke at the University of Southern California on November 4, 2009. This is a text of his remarks, edited for readability. A video of the speech is available here. To read about the efforts to censor him before the speech and the slander directed at him, click here.]
I want to thank the College Republicans for being brave enough to invite me, and I want to thank all of you who are here to actually listen for coming.
It used to be a pleasure for me to speak on a college campus like USC. I can remember the days when I could stroll onto the USC campus and walk over to the statue of Tommy Trojan where College Republicans had erected a platform for a rally to support our troops in Afghanistan after 9/11 at which I was to speak. Now, however, I cant set foot on this campus or any campus without being accompanied by a personal bodyguard and a battalion of armed campus security police to protect me and my student hosts.
Sheer prudence forces me to visit campuses with these security measures in place because Ive been demonized by the campus left at virtually every school Ive visited in the past decade and physically assaulted at several. USC officials regard the threats against this event seriously enough to have assigned twelve armed officers to watch over the proceedings. These police are not here to protect you from me. They are here to protect me from you members of the USC Progressive Alliance, Students for Justice in Palestine and the USC Muslim Student Union who have made these threats and incited hatred towards this event and its speaker.

The Universities should crack down on these thugs, EXCEPT they are run by these thugs.
exactly.
We let the thuggish, disruptive people take over our universities a long time ago. We need to take them back.
He and I had a nice chat about concealed weapons of various types and kinds.
:O)
Extremely important issues being discussed here. I wish more FR readers would read and comment.
That is true, Leftists only tolerate those they agree with.
IIRC, Governor Ronald Reagan and Chancellor S.I. Hayakawa (anybody remember him from Johnny Carson's monologues when he was a senator?) knew how to deal with thugs who wanted to take over a campus.

If these goons think threats are going to stop David Horowitz, they don’t know who they’re dealing with. He’s been through enough wars to face the enemy and spit in their eyes.
That’s certainly correct. David Horowitz isn’t one to walk away from a challenge, and especially not from radical leftists who think they can bully him into submission.
@hinckley buzzard: yes, well said.
@wildbill Domestically, I believe the culture of the Left is the most important issue facing Western countries.
If the Left gets its way—and it might—the U.S.A. will become a thugocracy ruled by the likes of Caligula, Tiberius, Nero, Adolf Hitler, Joe Stalin, Pol Pot, and Idi Amin.
As a USC law grad, I was invited to met the new dean several years ago. Nice enough guy, with “great” academic credentials. He was most pleased with the diversity of the faculty. Of course, he was referring to race, gender and sexual orientation. I asked him if there were any Republicans on the faculty - ANY REPUBLICANS? He couldn’t think of ONE.
Being a Trojan, I liked to think that USC was a notch above some other “elite” schools in that at USC there was at least some freedom of thought. I was wrong.
One last thing. USC has a huge Jewish student body. Where were they for this event?
bumpo
Exactly - this is exactly what’s wrong with so many universities, not just with USC.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

The reason the left HATES David Horowitz in particular is because he was once one of THEM.
He KNOWS them.
He knows their secrets.
He exposes them for who they really are.
He is the most dangerous man in the world to them, IMNSHO.
YUP!
THE INMATES ARE IN CHARGE OF THE ASSYLUM.
Whole essay by David Horowitz is worth reading....It’s about the lies and incitement and intimidation by the left/Muslim alliance on campus
