NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Saints coach Sean Payton says running back and fan favorite Deuce McAllister is back with the team for the playoffs.
McAllister practiced at the club's suburban headquarters and could be activated for Saturday's divisional round playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Payton confirmed the decision in a text message to The Associated Press. WWL-AM, the radio station that broadcasts Saints games, first reported the move.
The 31-year-old McAllister was waived by the team shortly after last season. He has been working out on his own and rehabbing a knee injury.
He is the Saints' career rushing leader. His 55 total touchdowns and 49 rushing TDs also are club records.

Go Cards (only because my wife is a Vikings fan - I have to root for them).
How can a team add a player at this point in the season?
WWLTV says he will not play, but will be inactive, serving as a team captain on the field.
deeptrout
ok..just checked out NOLA.COM..the Times Picayune..Deuce will be inactive..he was going originally going to be a guest captain and run out with the team..but when a backup def lineman went down with injury..they replaced the injured lineman with the free agent deuce..the Saints have made it official..he is now on the playoff roster..still a good move..imho..
I will feel much more comfortable when she shifts out of the campaign mode, and covers issues. Sarah, it’s not just about you!
“Injury”...riiiiiiight.
