God's punishment for Chavez halting rationing of electricity in Caracas.

By the way, isn't that the area where Venezuela pumps its heavy oil from?

Jonah knew if they repented God wouldn’t destroy the city. The people repented so the city was not destroyed...He did destroy much later when there was no longer a repentant people.

I cant take anymore images period.

I turned to EWTN to get away from the constant news media images and now EWTN is showing them.

At least EWTN has an upbeat message from the missionaries aiding the Haitians even before the quake.

I hate cartoons but I am strongly considering turning some on. /sarc

I have respite help coming in today and I need to get away from the media a nice drive after my mammogram down the coast might just be what peace I need.

Already on a prayer list at home turf for some family medical issues we have to cope with.

It is not the issue it is having to deal with the PC Medical personel.

Like going through airport security to get behind the Docs door and believe me the Docs/Nurses are sick of it too.

I wish someone would piss in the hosp. adminastrators coffee at ALL the non Christian overly regulated for profit PC medical places.

What most fear happening as in refusal to treat patients happened to our family years ago with KV being a medically fragile quad.

Takes allot to hold back when we have to seek more care than I can provide.
And that is rare as I have been taught by some great Docs to do it all and avoid the medical institutions.

/grumble /rant /wanna bitch slap the creeps (no maybe hold on to that anger untill I get into the shower)

Well, if 10 people say it, you can probably assume it’s true.

Basically under a 7.0 quake normal ground behaves like a liquid. Buildings literally sink into the ground. Take a close look at the docks in the satellite photo's release by the Coast Guard and you will see that the entire pier area is now under water. Despite what Danny Glover may say that is not sea level rise, the whole concrete structure just sank into the sand on the ocean bottom. Unreinforced concrete appears to explode.

Interestingly when a quake gets that big the more rigid a structure is the more damage it takes. The stone and concrete governor's mansion collapsed into a pile of rubble, but stacks of containers in the harbor (held together only by metal pins) were still standing.

Even a well built city is going to be severely damaged by a 7.0. In Haiti, where there are essentially no building codes, just about any rigid structure is going to collapse.

The quake in Venezuela was bad but the one in Haiti was more than 10 times worse. But a 5.7 can still wreck your whole day if your building was built by one of Hugo's friends who skimped on the re-bar.

Yeah, if we get an earthquake in North Korea next, we may have to question Pat.

Less than half- actually a lot less than half. 7 is 10 times the energy released of 6. 5.6 is correspondingly less than 6.
