Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday an investigation into the Fort Hood shootings found the military isn't sufficiently prepared to prevent similar attacks in the future.
Commanders must be encouraged to intervene if they think someone within the ranks is a threat, Gates said. He directed Army Secretary John McHugh to make changes and expects new policies to be in place by summer.
As many as eight Army officers could face discipline for failing to do anything when the alleged shooter in the Fort Hood rampage displayed erratic behavior early in his military career...
Gates did say the review shows that "it is clear that as a department we have not done enough to adapt to the evolving internal security threat." The secretary also said it demonstrates that the Pentagon "is burdened by 20th century processes and attitudes mostly rooted in the Cold War."

YES..but will they be charged as RACIST?
The first time someone is singled out as a potential threat we will see how serious they are about making the needed changes.
When military leaders are enforcing DIVERSITY for DIVERSITY’S SAKE.. This kind of Crap is going to happen. Installing the ENEMY WITHIN OUR OWN RANKS... “kinda STUPID if you ask me!!”
This is total B.S. I am a big supporter of the military, but the culture of political correctness that is the cause of this comes straight from THE TOP. Gates should fire himself. If he can’t stand up to Obama and Emmanuel, then quit.

Start with that IDIOT General Casey.
Oh, REALLY, Mr. Secretary? They see it; they recognize; then they get called racist, extremist and anti-muslim when they report it.
The military had better start worrying about problems at the top of their ranks - and even at the level higher than that.
It appears we are seeing the results of Clinton appointed generals and admirals. No balls, but plenty of political correctness. (Exceptions noted, of course.)
No general officers dismissed equals business as usual.
And kiss their careers goodbye.
If you want the officer corps to know that you are serious about changing the go-with-the-flow-PC-mentality, retiring Gen. Casey early would be the way to get EVERYBODY's attention. You wouldn't even have to make a big deal about it. The message would be received.
Sad to say, but I agree with Gates. Those officers appointed to rate Hassan let us down. They are charged with telling the truth about their subordinates. Otherwise, how will the military be able to tell the great soldiers from the average from the bad from the dangerous.
Such honesty would have gotten them in trouble in a diversity enamoured military, but they still should have done it, consequences be damned.
If memory serves, Togo supported the expulsion or suspension of a USAFA cadet for Christian proselytizing. He recognized THAT religious fervor quick enough.
Can it be a surprise that anyone who makes these PC policies will hide behind the skirts of the grunts and blame them for carrying out same.
Hey Gates, they spotted the threat but they wanted to keep their jobs! They did not want to be branded racists!! PC bullsh!t has neutered this entire country!!! Why don’t you and the rest in the Pentagon, DOD and Government take some responsibilitiy!!! The only thing that Diversity Training has taught us is that we are bad and all other special ethnic and racial groups are good.
Gates called it “workplace violence.”
Does that remind anyone of “man-made disasters?”
If you can’t call it by its name - terrorism - you are part of the problem.
You are right but I believe that will change. Those coming up through the ranks have seen the evil of Muslims up close and they have watched as their comrades have gotten thrown to the wolves. They will most definitely have a different perspective.
More projection for our betters in the MSM. Hey, nitwits, the officers saw and were totally aware. However, the PC culture thats pervaded our military prevented them from speaking up for fear of being cashier out. If they had spoken out would any of the general officers heard the message. I doubt it.
