WASHINGTON: Tiger Woods is donating $3 million for assistance in the rescue and relief effort in quake-hit Haiti, says hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.
The scandal-hit golfer is planning a donation to dispatch a cargo plane with a mobile hospital to Haiti.
"Tiger Woods is doing something AMAZING!!!! I heard [he's] donating to send a cargo plane with a mobile hospital out there. Keep ur prayers high!" US magazine quoted Simmons as saying on his Twitter page.
According to New York Daily News, Woods' donation - which would total 3 million dollars - would include having "50 EMTs to go set up a triage.
Simmons said, "I am just asking for his heart and his band. Just to meet the needs of the people."
However, Woods' rep have not confirmed Simmons' claim.
Nearly five hundred thousand are feared to be dead in Haiti after a grade 7.0-magnitude quake struck the impoverished country's capital on Tuesday afternoon.
Good for Tiger. I’d like to hear more stories about people of many means helping out in this way.

Agreed. Tiger can send the Haitians Nike golf clobs and balls because no one wants to buy their crappy golf equipment. If true it is a nice gesture.

No offense but this is overtly orchestrated PR.
I’d have a lot more respect for this as a genuine act if it would have been discovered weeks or months after it had already been done. Given what’s happened to Tiger’s image and the timing and announcement of this, I seriously have to question the altruism of it. I’m glad that the Haiti victims are going to get more aid, at the same time I think Woods is just doing it primarily to rehab his image.
