Looters have broken into U.N. food warehouses in Haiti's crumbled capital, an official said Friday, as security and logistical challenges mounted for groups trying to feed at least 2 million people reeling from a devastating earthquake.

The U.N. World Food Program had 15,000 tons of food aid in Haiti prior to Tuesday's 7.0-magnitude earthquake, stocks designed for hurricane relief. Spokeswoman Emilia Casella said local partners reported that the U.N. warehouse in Port-au-Prince's Cite Soleil neighborhood was looted but the agency did not know how much aid was stolen or exactly when it was taken.

here here, except I think you meant UN personnel (as in local contract Haitian guards etc) who knew where the UN goods were stored) .... not US personnel

Rahm Emanuel:

"Never let a serious crisis go to waste."

This is an opportunity for the UN to blame looters for all the supplies and food previously bartered away or sold on the black market by UN personel.

Looting is taking things just to take them and taking advantage of a situation. Breaking into a warehouse where food is stored and no one available to distribute it because you are starving is survival.

My only worry is that the gangs will hoard the food.

When all hell breaks loose, survival of the fittest is usually the first reaction.

Early this morning FOX reported some “minor looting” and calm in the streets. Also, that “things were calm downtown”. BS!!

Bill Hemmer (FOX’s little mama’s boy) just reported also that everything is calm in the downtown area’s. He has access to every story we have here, so he knows the truth about the machate weilding gangs and looting. I have yet to see him report from anywhere but the ‘safe’ airport. If it’s so safe, get downtown, Bill, you little boob.

Report the truth. We can handle it.

My guess is the delay is due to large number of UN officials who were killed or injured in the quake. The UN is a very top down organization and when a few higher ups are missing the whole system stops.

Not missing a thing, it’s the USELESS UN for ya. Dissolve the UN already! The world would be better off. All that money that goes into that corrupt, worthless UN would free up more for the poor! parasites....

That maybe one of the problems but it also contradicts previous reports about UN relief workers being on the ground within 24 hours ready to help. This happened 4 days ago.

Interesting story for baseball fans out there . . .

An episode like this cost Roberto Clemente his life back on New Year's Eve in 1972. During that off-season he took it upon himself to organize a major relief effort for victims of a massive earthquake that affected the Nicaraguan capital of Managua.

Relief supplies were sent from Puerto Rico on three flights during the last week of December that year. After hearing that these supplies were being seized by gangs of thugs and were not getting to the people who needed them, Clemente himself decided to accompany the supplies on the fourth flight on New Year's Eve. That was the flight that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing everyone on board.

The amazing thing is that we have libs, Obamabots, and Foggy Bottom State Department volk laying on as if we needed proper process diplomatic channel full permission to get in their and help.

When blood is in the streets you don’t wait for ‘diplomats”, ever. There was once a great leader in Medieval Spain, probably even a diplomatic type, when his city was hit by a massive earthquake, he said “Get to work now! Feed the hungry, bury the dead!” and immediately rolled up his sleeves and joined the effort.

Thanks! I was only a young kid when that happened, so it wasn't exactly based on an "excellent memory." I just remembered reading about that in a recent article about Clemente that had been written around the anniversary of his passing.

One of the finest human beings ever to grace the baseball diamond, from all accounts.

...when a few higher ups are missing the whole system stops.

But hungry people do not. The children of City Soleil, poorest of the poor, will not go to bed hungry tonight. Staving off imminent starvation, their parents and community leaders have liberated thousands of tons of UN hoarded food today.

I would call it looting if they were snatching TV sets and computers. This is just survival. Hopefully the food will make its way into plenty of bellies and won't turn into some kind of wasteland commodity.

The UN’s rapid contingency “plan” for moving emergency supplies is the United States.

The UN has NEVER known how much was stolen or when-—with any of their programs all over the world.

The UN is part of the problem- not part of the solution.
