A. Special election (to be held Nov, 2010) due to the resignation of Joe Biden to become Vice President of the United States. The term will end Jan, 2015.
B. Special election (to be held in January 19, 2010) due to the death of Ted Kennedy. The term will end Jan 3, 2013
C. Special election (to be held Nov, 2010) due to the resignation of Hillary Rodham Clinton to become United States Secretary of State. The term will end Jan 3, 2013.

In addition, the Class II Senate seat in Delaware currently held by Ted Kaufman and the Class I Senate seat in New York currently held by Kirsten Gillibrand, will be contested in special elections resulting from Joe Biden’s 2008 election as Vice President of the United States and Hillary Clinton’s appointment to the Cabinet as U.S. Secretary of State and their subsequent resignations from the Senate. Also, the Class I Senate seat in Texas currently held by Kay Bailey Hutchison, may be contested due to her intent to run for Governor of that state (she has announced her intent to resign but has yet to do so, and under Texas law does not have to resign her Senate seat to run for Governor). A special election will also be held for the Class I seat in Massachusetts, as a result of the death of Ted Kennedy. The election will be held on January 19, 2010
