Haiti earthquake in pictures: The unimaginable horror which has torn a country apart

The destruction has been described as unimaginable.

But for the people of Haiti, the effects wrought by Tuesday's catastrophic earthquake are all too real.

It is now two days since the disaster ripped their island apart - but few are able to comprehend the sheer scale of the crisis.

Much of the capital Port-au-Prince lies waste. In public squares and makeshift hospitals, in playing fields and parks, stunned survivors squat motionless on blankets or stagger around with glazed eyes.

Rescue workers make desperate - and frequently futile attempts to prise away masonry to free trapped victims. But in many cases, they are simply opening up impromptu tombs.

The children are the most pitiful. Cradled in their parents arms with bandages swathed away their bloodied heads, few have the energy to even cry.

Why did the presidente, king or whatever he called himself, live in such an oppulant palace?

Why such lavish government buildings, yet the people live in such squaller?

Also sounds like the Haitians are prime examples of a people who feel entitled.

Seems that they are mad that aid was not quick to arrive so they blocked the roads with dead bodies to prevent workers from entering the area to help them.

That is typical to what they have done in the past and I wonder why everyone always feels so sorry for them. They seem to thrive on a death wish mentality and we always bend over backwards to be humane despite their attitude.

Pretty soon they'll start making demands that they are entitled to emigrate to the US.

Not to worry. He'll get an immense chunk of the hundred million Obammer is sending over, so he'll have plenty to build himself some new digs. By the time all the politicians and crooks get their hands into all that money, the peasants will be lucky if there's enough left to buy a bag of rice.

Isn’t that the way it has always been?

Because in socialist societies, some people are more equal that others.

9999

I just caught a few moments of Greta’s show on Fox and she is moaning that her chartered plane was not allowed to land in the crippled country’s only lifeline airport.

Some people really do feel more equal than others.
What in creation can Greta do on the ground there to help the situation in any way.
AAAAAAGH!!!

And I can only imagine that every news agency with the ability to hire a plane is trying to do the same thing.
It is perverted! Let the rescue mission planes get landed, fr Gd’s sake.
