A pair of 17-year-old Somalis from Minneapolis were charged this afternoon with first-degree murder in the killings of three people last week at a south Minneapolis market in what Hennepin County's top prosecutor called "a robbery gone bad."
Ahmed Shire Ali and Mahdi Hassan Ali were accused in a criminal complaint of killing two store employees and a customer who walked in just as the robbery got underway. He was immediately shot.
"It's a tragic, senseless shooting," said County Attorney Mike Freeman, in announcing three counts of first-degree murder against each defendant. "It's a robbery gone bad."
The two suspects are being held in lieu of $3 million bail each.

I was listening to news reports of the crime when it first occurred and the police spokesman seemed awfully nervous as he gave an account of what was known at the time. He said don’t jump to conclusions and he hesitated to characterize it as a robbery. My gut feeling, listening to him, and on the heels of the Christmas bomber, was that the policeman was looking forward to blaming some Scandinavian right-wing hate group for a “retaliation”-type crime. Now the cops have no one to blame but the Somalis.
MPLS is now always a bit leary of blaming the real bad guys...until the real bad guys are proven to be at fault...
The local authorities have been cowed by the immigrant community.

ALL teenagers who murder "were pretty good kids." Maybe that's good profile material. Just round up all the "pretty good kids" and send them to re-education camp. No more teenage murders!
It was a strange news conference, that’s for sure.
