Gingrich Considers Himself GOP Prospect for 2012 Presidential Election

CARY, N.C. -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Wednesday he considers himself among the top Republican prospects for the 2012 presidential election, adding that he believes there will be plenty of GOP options for voters to consider.

"I think I'm probably on a list of seven or eight possible candidates at this stage," Gingrich said. "We have a lot of people around the country who would like to have somebody who represents a commitment to replace the current failed programs and to develop a set of solutions that are practical and workable."

Gingrich listed several current and former goverors who he thinks might enter the race. They include former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty. He said he will discuss his possible candidacy with his wife early next year before making a decision about whether to run.

Gingrich also suggested that governors Mitch Daniels from Indiana, Haley Barbour from Mississippi, Rick Perry from Texas and Bobby Jindal from Louisiana, as well as South Dakota Sen. John Thune could run.

The former lawmaker from Georgia talked to reporters before speaking to hundreds of conservatives in North Carolina, a state that went to the Democrats in 2008 for the first time in three decades. Gingrich said the political environment is favoring Republicans and that the party could regain a lot of power in this year's mid-term election.

A key conductor of the GOP's takeover of the U.S. House in 1994, Gingrich encouraged his party to revisit the "Contract for America" brainstorm that helped swing the election that year.

Mr. Gingrich talks the talk and that is as far as this silver tongue mildly conservative ever goes. He has all the right words, understands government and America but the poor fellow can't seem to find a spine.

Could he handle a Palin/Gingrich ticket? He’d be a good VP.

Newt, buy a pipe and a tape recorder and spend the rest of your life expounding upon the great questions of the universe in the confines of your own home.

Newt, if we need you we’ll call. Don’t sit by the phone.

Real conservatives do not consider Newt Gingrich as a top presidential candidate in 2012.

If this Global Warming, Pelosi loving, Dede Scizzofava loving Liberal gets the GOP nom....I will never vote GOP again. Why waste a conservative vote on a liberal whose Contract On America was nothing more than a hot-air failure?

Newt, newt, newt…your time has passed, and you were not found worthy! Now go home and write another book about something that has value to society.

I am just not feeling it. His strength was in the legislative branch, where some of the stuff he did in Congress bordered on genius. Executive branch and presidential politics are a different story. Too bad that his talent can’t be put to use in the current Congress.

At one time, Newt might’ve been an exciting candidate, but since he decided to become a pundit, and “moved to the middle”, he has a distinct RINO odor about him. He may have a hard time getting any conservative to take him seriously.

AMEN~~!!

coming from Ging’s home stompin grounds, knowing too many who know him, worked with him, etc....the guy is a 100% self serving FAKE!

I have met him in person and was very impressed.... I could sit down and talk with him, and enjoy a beer or two over dinner, and really like him on that level....

but I don’t trust him to do the right thing because it is right...I don’t trust him to do anything hard, or that would put his clout in DC at risk....

in other words, he is not honest and sincere, but he is not evil- he just thinks he is smarter than everyone else and can fool them......I don’t think he is a TOTAL SNAKE...but I do think he is spineless.....
