WASHINGTON – Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday will tell a panel investigating the financial crisis that the Justice Department is using "every tool at its disposal" to fight the financial crimes that contributed to the meltdown and could cause another.

According to prepared remarks, Holder will say the fight against economic crime is part of a broader strategy to "foster confidence in our financial system, integrity in our markets and prosperity for the American people."

Holder will highlight the work of a new, interagency Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force created by President Barack Obama to coordinate efforts between the Justice Department and other agencies.

The task force will focus on mortgage and securities fraud, theft of federal stimulus money and financial exploitation of minority communities, Holder has said. He has said it will help restore confidence in the financial markets.

The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, a 10-member bipartisan panel, will also hear from FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro, as well as state regulators.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, an aggressive prosecutor of mortgage fraud, will say that the pre-crisis mortgage system profited everyone except homeowners.

I wonder, what exactly is a “financial crime”?

Also, I would imagine Chris Dodd and Bawny Fwank will be indicted for “financial crimes” which contributed to the “meltdown” .

First off how can there be 'theft' of stimulus money when it was given away without any preconditions? Or does he mean the money stolen by Congress in Pork and that was given to zip codes that don't exist? Or stolen by phony groups like ACORN (Ha-ha that was a joke.)

And how can you exploit someone who goes after a $300,000 mortgage when they make $12.00 an hour and couldn't make the first payment. But the Banks HAD to issue said mortgage thanks to Jesse and Rev Al - and YOU, the DoJ or face 'discrimination' charges. Who was trying to exploit whom?

The bottom line of Holder's BS is this -- I'm gonna get Whitey. And that 'ain't gonna restore no confidence nohow'. (my hillary impression)

btw mr Holder, how are those Black Panther documents coming along? You know, the ones you won't release!
