Sarah had to walk a fine line here. She can’t afford to alienate the entire GOP from her, and she also has always spoken highly about McCain; but she did not deny he was a progressive, which did surprise me.

Exactly. She didn’t deny that McCain is a RINO. But she doesn’t want to publicly attack him. And I can’t blame her for that.

She’s NOT saying “Vote for McCain.” She’s just not going to say, “McCain is a lousy liberal.”

So, yes, it’s walking a fine line. There’s no need for her to attack McCain, because he has shrunk down to nothing, won’t run again, and people aren’t paying much attention to him any more—or to his idiot daughter. Since McCain is now basically off the table, why should she accept Beck’s invitation to badmouth him?

If Palin had made a broader statement about how the GOP had lost their way and needed (party) reform it would have shown principle. But by avoiding talking about republicans and focusing all or most of her comments on democrats it looks like she is just playing up to the base cult who want to hear: "Democrats are evil, don't think about Republicans"

Right. McCain is not the only rino who will suddenly grow a spine to save face and electoral viability. Like them or not, the GOP needs them to win or lose on their own merits without intrusive comments from her. Palin knows better than to trash them now. Grace in victory will serve her and us far better than vindictiveness.
