Pat Robertson blames Haiti suffering on 'pact with devil' (Idiot Alert)

US EVANGELICAL preacher Pat Robertson has blamed Haitians directly for the devastating earthquake, saying that the country "swore a pact to the devil'' at its creation. "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it,'' Robertson said on his Christian Broadcasting Network show The 700 Club.

The 80-year-old former presidential candidate said Haitians were originally "under the heel of the French".

"You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever.

"And they got together and swore a pact to the devil.

"They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story.

Dan Quayle may have said some dumb things, but not ignorant (like Robertson). There is a distinction.

Robertson has always creeped me out, and it gets worse with each new foolish and weird public utterance.

Mister Robertson btw claims to be a combat veteran, but his Marine contemporaries do not apparently agree.

From Wiki...Republican Congressman Paul "Pete" McCloskey, Jr., who served with Robertson in Korea, claimed that Robertson was actually spared combat duty when his powerful father, a U.S. Senator, intervened on his behalf, claiming that instead Robertson spent most of his time in an office in Japan. According to McCloskey, his time in the service was not in combat but as the "liquor officer" responsible for keeping the officers' clubs supplied with liquor..

“If God isnt mad at us, he ought to be.”

Fortunately, you and I aren’t in charge of the world. God’s judgement is always appropriate, precise, timely, and tempered with mercy.

Don’t forget that there are a lot of His people in this country and they are praying in their prayer closets, where Jesus said to pray. (Matthew 6:6)

You were saying ...

If God isnt mad at us, he ought to be.

Oh, He is... for the over 50 million kids that the parents of this country have killed in recent years...

Haitians have suffered since the slave population rose up against their oppressors and declared their independence on January 1, 1804. Under the leadership of a witch doctor and slave named Boukman, the French were eradicated and a pact made between the liberators and their voodoo gods.

To this day, an iron statue of a pig stands in Port-au-Prince to commemorate the “Boukman Contract.” Even Aristide, though once a Roman Catholic priest, declared voodoo to be “an essential part of national identity” in March of 2003.1

The slave revolt there makes good reading and is a testament to how the desire for freedom is contagious. Where they took a hard left turn from the USA was that they had not the men of education or character to lead them afterwards. They also had very finite resources where the USA had a whole continent to exploit for riches. I don't think a deal with the devil is why they ended up such a mess. Most Voodoo practitioners are Catholics.

Are you referring to THIS McCloskey?

McCloskey leaves Republican Party
“I was proud to serve with Republicans like Gerry Ford, the first George Bush and Bob Dole.”

I don't see this nation (the USA) repenting of its sins as a nation, like we see in what Abraham Lincoln said and understood back in 1863. He understood what God did with nations.

I find that here on Free Republic, many don't believe that God deals with nations like this (as we see from what Abraham Lincoln said and understood). Many don't believe there is any judgment from God coming upon this nation...

Well, we'll see, as we have already seen from the judgment we've already received in the form of President Obama...

Proclamation - Appointing a National Fast-Day
March 30, 1863

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION

Whereas the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the supreme authority and just government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations, has by a resolution requested the President to designate and set apart a day for national prayer and humiliation; and

Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord;

And, insomuch as we know that by His divine law nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.

It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power. to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.

Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do by this my proclamation designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th day of April, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer. And I do hereby request all the people to abstain on that day from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite at their several places of public worship and their respective homes in keeping the day holy to the Lord and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion.

All this being done in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the divine teachings that the united cry of the nation will be heard on high and answered with blessings no less than the pardon of our national sins and the restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition of unity and peace. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this 30th day of March, A. D. 1863, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-seventh.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

By the President:

WILLIAM H. SEWARD, Secretary of State .

The August 12 Christianity Today said Robertson has helped to shape the Charismatic movement as a wide, ecumenical and comfortable phenomenon. It said: ‘Robertson has also opened himself to Roman Catholics—so much so that he signed a controversial statement of common cause between Evangelical and Catholic believers, hired a devout Roman Catholic to head his public-interest law organization (the ACLJ), and allows the Catholic Mass to be celebrated daily on the Regent [University] campus for its sizable group of Roman Catholic students’” (Calvary Contender, September 1, 1996).

I am not a follower, positive or negative of Pat Robertson. When he was running for president I cruised the web for general information about him. Statements such as the above are numerous, and I only post it as an example. Appears he sides with whatever position advances him at the moment.

Because he has a Catholic presence on campus doesn’t mean Robertson is Catholic.

Words mean things. Robertson had a long history of being pretty anti-Catholic and because he allows students to practice their faith doesn’t mean he is anymore Catholic than Obama.

The PAGAN press runs to Robertson to make true believers seem stupid. Robertson is an embarassment to the Kingdom of God!
