US EVANGELICAL preacher Pat Robertson has blamed Haitians directly for the devastating earthquake, saying that the country "swore a pact to the devil'' at its creation. "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it,'' Robertson said on his Christian Broadcasting Network show The 700 Club.
The 80-year-old former presidential candidate said Haitians were originally "under the heel of the French".
"You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever.
"And they got together and swore a pact to the devil.
"They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story.

Indeed. Mr. Robertson needs to remember a tiny little incident in Christ's ministry that involved a blind son. Remember?
And as [Jesus] passed by, he saw a man which was blind from [his] birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:1-3)
Exactly. Most of the posters thus far have missed that very logical connection.
If Sarah can be part of "Gods Plan" (her words) Haiti can be part of Satans Plan.
They’re 80% Catholic; I suspect Robertson doesn’t know that.
Or, maybe that’s what pisses him off.
Why not?
If God was going to pissed at anyone, it would be with the USA.
He gave us rights and then we piss them away. He gave us freedom and we are throwing that away as well. He gave us a chance to be greater than anyone and the country elected a pagan for president in return.
We have made ito so you cant even pray to him in public school. If you are religious you are mocked in the media.
If God isnt mad at us, he ought to be.
....something happened a long time ago in Haiti....
Something happened a long time ago to Pat Robertson.
Robertson buys into AGW? Really?
That surprises me, I guess.
Of course after he steered the one hurricane away from CBN headquarters and into, uh, well who really cares who he steered it into, right? The main thing is that it didn’t hit the Christian but hit someone else. Right Pat?
After that bizarre episode I guess nothing he does should be a surpirise.
A really do not believe that God can be persuaded to point a hurricane one way or another.
He knows that, he may appear crazy to those unaware of his business procedures, but he's a pro.
“If God was going to pissed at anyone, it would be with the USA.”
Exactly. San Francisco is still standing.
There is a lot of occult religion goes on in Haiti. I wouldnt be too quick to discount God taking his hand of protection away from it.
I definitely would not discount it. God's judgment takes place all over this world, as He does judge the nations and the peoples of the world. Haiti has been known by Christian missionaries as a place of darkness in the spiritual realm, which the Bible makes clear to us is the controlling force behind many things that go on in this world. It's the spiritula forces of darkness that hold sway over large portions of this globe.
There's more of this coming down the pike, too, from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Ephesians Chapter 6 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
I simply can’t believe grown adults follow this man.
Pat Robertson has done a lot of good. He's well educated and at one point (during the 90's) had a lot of credibility. Now I cringe when I hear of reports of him opening his mouth....he's turned into the Dan Quayle of our time.
Very well stated and it looks like He is and our chastisement looks to be a work in progress. We don’t know what tomorrow can bring and what happened in Haiti can happen here too.

if you want to see Robertson say it, skip to the 6 minute mark.
Glad you brought that up. Napoleon (and it was the 1st, not the 3rd!) sent something like 65K troops over, who committed horrendous atrocities in an effort to suppress the slave revolt. Their failure caused him to give up his dream of a new French empire in America. We owe a debt to the people of Haiti, which was the 2nd New World country after the U.S. to free itself from Euro. colonialism.
“22: Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. “
- Romans 11:22
Excuse me? That's a rather insulting thing to say about Quayle, especially if you had seen him an hour ago on Fox News with Cavuto.
Well said!
He most certainly in NOT Catholic!
He’s Evangelical.
Ah yes, serving two masters.
