The earthquake happened almost directly under the capital of Haiti. The western part of the Dominican Republic is only lightly inhabited with a national park covering much of the territory.
The capital of the Dominican Republic is almost 150 miles away.

The world is full of idiots, it’s sad that some of them crawl out to show themselves when things like this happen.
A colleague from the DR, called his parents last night (US time). They live in Santo Domingo (DR’s capital) and said that while they felt the quake’s shock, no real damage was done. Almost all of the damage occurred in Haiti, on the western end of the island of Hispaniola.
In other words, no lose of human life.

I fear you are correct. We have a friend in the Dominican Republic who says, "When America sneezes, the DR catches cold".
