The seemingly tightening race for U.S. Senate gained national steam yesterday as conservative radio yakker Rush Limbaugh took to the airwaves to blast Martha Coakley as an “entrenched machine candidate” and a “sock puppet” for Washington Democrats.

Limbaugh’s assault on the Democratic attorney general came at the top of his broadcast - and after Coakley used a picture of him in a negative ad targeting GOP opponent Scott Brown as a “lockstep” Republican. Limbaugh, who said he had “purposely” stayed out of the race, could not resist responding.

“My picture is in the first attack ad that’s been run by this Coakley woman,” Limbaugh said, according to a transcript posted on RushLimbaugh.com. “I’m not in Washington, certainly not an insider, and ‘Republican’ is the dirty word in the campaign commercial.”

Limbaugh crowed that Brown, the Wrentham state senator, “destroyed this Martha Coakley” in Monday night’s debate, and ripped her for saying terrorists had left Afghanistan.

Coakley spokesman Corey Welford responded by calling Brown “the darling of Rush Limbaugh and the extreme right wing.” The Democratic National Committee even sought to link Brown to right-wing lightning rod Karl Rove.

As Brown announced raising a staggering $1.3 million from 17,000 donors in a 24-hour online cash drive, Coakley unleashed an ad featuring an ominous-sounding narrator and photos of former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. ...

I might get flamed for this, but I wish Rush didn’t take the bait. It’s the Dhims’ intention to drag Rush and Sarah to this race. So far, Sarah managed to stay away from it by refraining herself from endorsing Brown. Although I understand that it is very difficult for Rush (not to get into the fray) since his name is used in the ad. It would be better if someone else answer for Rush, I think.

She won’t be the 1st in the senate and — heck — we also have a sock puppet president.

Making ads using Rush Limbausg’s face is going to work like how all the Bush-Cheney-Rove-right wing extremest ads have worked for Coakley so far: NOT!
All they have gotten from constantly invoking Bush/Cheney is that from a 30 point lead just a few weeks ago, Coakley is now reduced to just 2% in the latest Rasmussen poll.
We gotta encourage these clowns to make even more Bush whacking ads. Them anti-Bush ads are working beautifully.. for Brown. Even people from the People's republic of Massachusetts are not stupid enough to think this election is about Bush o Limbaugh.

I respectfully disagree. Besides, they will just steal the election anyway. I am torn, because the commies in taxachusetts really deserve this woman, but she will vote in the Senate!

There is no way that even a moderate republican can overcome a 10-1 advantage in MA. The state is hopeless. I wish it weren’t true, but it is. Hats off to Brown who is making it a race.

Independents outnumber the Democrats in Massachusetts, and Brown is leading amongst independents by a wide margin right now according to most polls.
Plus of course Republicans have won state wide elections before. Romney was elected Governor not that long ago.
Not saying Brown will win, but its far from a 10:1 impossible odds. Its pretty close right now.
