#1 - To call these really benign comments racist is weird

#2 -(And the one that really matters) - Good grief, who is nutty enough to want him to resign? We need him to stay in office so we can defeat him, because that looks pretty easy. Do we really want him to resign and have to face someone else? NO!

Larry is not alone. Tonight Heraldo indicated clearly that he thinks Harry Reid was using "rougher language". I've been saying that since the story broke.

No way Harry said "Negro" ~ it had an "N" in it, and a "g" and an "r" ~

The people coming out to cover for Harry are what are known in the trade as "Uncle Toms".

I’m not sure how to judge this... are you light skinned or dark skinned? Cuz apparently the leftists have decided to make that distinction by defending Harry Reid.

Which is odd because even Rod Blago says he is blacker than Obama. But if I go by Reid said then Blago-being blacker than Obama- is a dark skinned negro and not as preferable... so this is confusing now.

So poverty (if owning a laundry mat and being lower middle class is poverty) is also black? My dad grew up picking cotton, the whole family did it. Those huge sacks full would be a dime for the picker, apparently.

Did I hear Rush play a click from the Hillary campaign of Andrew Young declare her black too? Because being a woman is a drawback and therefor women are black?

See, that is also confusing. If women are black because they were held back in history, would they be light skinned or dark skinned black?

I am just going to have to give up on trying to understand where the Democrats are coming from. I am going to have to just go with the conservative position to treat everyone the same.

Much less complicated that way.

Lets assume he used “negro”.

He still makes the distinction that light skin is better.

Thats the racist thing.

Hey, remember Mondale and Ferraro? Fritz was pretty light. And Geraldine? She was pretty light too, and not just for her ethnotype.

What do you imagine the Democrats were up to then?

It is not “racist” to note the obvious fact that Obama is light-skinned and that this probably helped him in the election. Reid is a scumbag but he shouldn’t resign over this. Down the road, some conservatives are going to regret their eagerness to become PC thought police in this case.

I don’t think a Dimocrat can be racist, the big D gives them immunity. They don’t have to walk the walk, they just have to pretend that they care.

Clinton- a few years ago he would be getting us coffee

Andrew Young - Hillary is black too

Blago - I’m blacker than Barack Obama

Its an epidemic

Why would conservatives regret this? Because a real conservative would never say something like that

Resign from the Senate? IDIOCY!

He needs to be soundly defeated in November.

I disagree. It’s not racist to say talk about other people’s reactions. He didn’t endorse them, he was stating what is a reality, at least among some voters.

Reid made a far more offensive statement when he said the war in Iraq “is lost”, while American soldiers were fighting and dying in the field. That was vile and inexcusable, and he should have resigned over it, but it didn’t get a tenth the controversey as this relatively trival comment.

We want Reid to stay and get his a*s kicked in November.

Dodd will quit and he would have lost in a slam dunk if he had stayed.

And the assertion that he can turn the “dialect” on and off as it suits him - clearly a criticism of his “authentic blackness”. If he had wanted to illustrate what a phony Øbozo is he could have easily done so without involving race.

I’m with you.

That the leader of the DNC (the Dem’s Michael Steele equivalent — don’t know his name), Obama and other lefty apologists excuse Reid’s remarks by saying that “he was just complimenting Obama” makes my head explode!

So, Reid was praising him for his light skin? Middle-American dialect? Do they really mean to say that “light skin” is superior to “dark skin”? Anything other than an Indiana Anchorman dialect is inferior?

The fallout from this is worse than Reid’s original, disgraceful sin. Anyone who excuses Reid is also racist.

i understand your desire to be rid of dingy harry, however i think he needs to stay right where he is doing what he is doing until the election in Nov. see i believe that oblabo and reid and pelosi are quite efficiently destroying the democrat party and the progressive movement. they are exposing both for what they truly are: pond scum sucking bottom feeders who love communism and want it for all except the political class. even die-hard dems (jacksonian democrats) who just pull the lever for whoever has a D after their name are starting to realize that the people in charge of that party are not true old style democrats but pure elitist communists who hate america and want to destroy it. so i say let harry and nancy and barky carry on. they think they know what is best for everyone and they are too stupid to see that everyone knows they are too corrupt and out of touch to be trusted. the democrat party will not recover from this unholy trinity.

I don’t want him to resign. I want him beaten into mulch in ten months and “Daschled” from power and shamed into private life. He’s already down 20 points in the polls, I want that gap widened. Harry Reid’s dwindling popularity will sink Harry Reid.

**It is my opinion that Harry Reid should not only resign his post as Majority leader, Harry Reid should resign from the U.S. Senate.**

Bump that!

RE :”And why aren’t Republicans screaming for his resignation?”

Screaming? Give me a break. As if this is some big principle. The current meltdown of the democrats is going great. Reid will lose in November. What is this whining?

“It seems to be that we can forgive a 100-year-old senator (Thurmond) for some of the indiscretion of his youth, but, what is more difficult to forgive is the current president of the U.S. Senate (Lott) suggesting we had been better off if we had followed a segregationist path in this country after all of the battles and fights for civil rights and all the work that we still have to do..."

“The Republican Party itself has to drive out Trent Lott. If they have to stand for something, they have to stand up and say this is not the person we want representing our party.”
