A major magnitude 7.3 quake hit the impoverished country of Haiti Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The epicentre of the quake, which was initially reported a magnitude 7.0 off the coast, was located inland, six miles (10 km) west of Carrefour, close to the capital Port-au-Prince and was only 20.5 miles (30 km) deep. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere....

Thanks for the Ping, Ernest. I've been having some major computer problems here.

We are getting closer to the year when your learned assumptions are going to have to be adjusted wholesale.
Some think it will be this year. I don’t know.
As you know, timing on such matters has been horribly wrong in the past.
I do personally believe, however, with my usual poor record on timing, too . . . that
we are going to start seeing 7.X and above quakes happen closer and closer together all around the planet. And, that California is going to be devastated with at least a very big one probably within the next 8-12 months.
We shall see. I wish we were speculating about something much less deadly.
Rampant corruption is not a great help in building solid durable buildings of quality materials.
I used to think it was much worse overseas. And I still think it is.
However, it’s a problem in many areas here, as well.
Can someone with some influence as the Admin Mods to put this back on breaking news or the category just below as I think there are a lot of people who would like to follow this story. There are a lot of missionaries, and medical people who work there, and now a lot of volunteers going there to do good works. We, and new people signing on, should be able to follow this from the right hand column listing.
It is still in breaking news.

“That is w hy folks need to be prepared” (with food, etc.)
Unfortunately, the tragedy of Haiti, is that most people are lucky if they even have one day of food. So many have to scrounge every single day just to get a minimal amount of food needed to maintain life. I would say a lot are probably so borderline that they could die of starvation in a week. I remember this man and woman who crashed in Alaska and lived more than 40 days because they were both overweight. Not so most Haitians.
I just went back to the opening page, and it is NOT in Breaking news, or the category below it.
Believe you can choose how many of those stories to show. I show 25 and it is the 21st from the top.
Agreed for the Haitians - such a tragic situation. I was meaning it all as a reminder to all of us. Even with not too much money and living in a small apartment, one can stash water and buy an extra can of food once in awhile and other essentials to survive until help arrives.
But yeah, when you are begging for enough for one ball of rice for each member of your family each day, that isn’t the case.
It's all well and good dramatic and attention getting to profess your evangelical zeal but the Bible tells us to pray in private and treat the lest of our brothers as you would Christ himself. Of course, it's not as attention getting as dancing before the Arch of the Covenant.
That's true, a person who truly knows Christ not only "should" have Christ in his heart, but does have Christ, and the Holy Spirit, in his heart all the time.
However, Christ not only said that He would come "like a thief in the night", but that those who were obeying His commandment to watch for His return would know when it would be near, "even at the door".
So we know from Christ's own words that not only are we to look for His return, but we would know when it is about to happen.

That can't possibly be how how you perceive a Christian's excitement at the soon return of their Savior. What a shame if it is. Christ commands us to proclaim Him around the world, sing joyful songs to Him, and most of all, not to stay silent about our faith in Him.
And the part about not praying in public? Sorry, but that's not a commandment for Christians to stay in the shadows and shut up about Him. That is for phony religious people who try to draw attention to themselves by putting on phony religious shows in public. That's not Jesus telling those who love Him to hide and not talk about Him.
And as for "dancing before the "Arch" of the Covenant" I personally don't know anyone who does that. I didn't know the Ark of the Covenant had been found.
