How worried have Democrats become about the special Senate election in Massachusetts? The DSCC has suddenly shifted over a half-million dollars into last-minute ad buys in Boston and Springfield to shore up Martha Coakleys campaign:
The DSCC will launch ads on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D) as she battles to preserve Dems 60-seat majority in the Senate.
The DSCC has purchased $567K in ads in the Boston and Springfield markets, a source tells Hotline OnCall.
The move is the most overt DC Dems have made so far in shoring up their candidate in the race against state Sen. Scott Brown (R), demonstrating the partys worry that Brown is gaining ground ahead of next Tuesdays election.
Earlier, the MA Dems, in concert with Coakleys campaign, launched a 2-day ad blitz in the same 2 markets at a cost of $288K.
Thats over $800,000 from the party in just 48 hours. And theyre not buying ads because theyre believing that Boston Globe poll that puts Coakley up 15 points over Scott Brown, either. The fact that they have to have an ad buy in Boston should be rather unnerving for Democrats around the country. Democrats own Boston or at least they did.
Meanwhile, whats Coakley doing today? Knocking on doors, meeting with voters, addressing the issues? According to CNNs Ed Henry on his Twitter feed, not exactly:
Coakley obviously needs some late cash, but good idea to be hanging with DC lobbyists one week before Election Day instead of campaigning?
Its a good idea if youre out of cash and have to get bailed out of a bad campaign effort by the state and national party organizations. Speaking of which, that money may have been earmarked for other races, like Nevada, Arkansas, and Connecticut. Massachusetts was supposed to be a lock. If they have to flood the zone in Boston, what does that say for the DSCCs chances in November in purple and red states?
Now Brown can run an ad: “Vote for me...at least I can spell ‘Massachusetts’!”
When the hell is this election anyway?
I’ve read about 20 stories on it the past week or two, but none of them have mentioned the date to vote.
I hope the GOP gets into the race also... after Michael Steele gets back from his book tour.
January,19th
One week from today.
may be too late for the Democart buy for campaign time

Is your campaign in trouble? Attack Rush Limbaugh!
1:21 PM, Jan 12, 2010 · BY Matthew Continetti
Democrats must really be worried about the Massachusetts special election. The DNC dispatched partisan fire-breather Hari Sevugan to help with Martha Coakley's communications strategy. Coakley's in trouble because the Democratic health care bill is unpopular in Massachusetts, Democratic incumbent governor Deval Patrick is a flop, and the unemployment rate is at 8.8 percent.
The rule in politics is to change the subject when your campaign is in trouble. Sure enough, Sevugan wasted no time spilling ink in a desperate attempt to link Republican Scott Brown to Sarah Palin. In last night's debate, Coakley acted as though Brown were just a stand in for George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. And a harsh new Coakley ad tried to connect Brown to Rush Limbaugh--before everyone noticed the campaign had misspelled Massachusetts in the text.
Sevugan's latest hyperpartisan missive says Brown has "made a deal with the devil" by embracing Tea Party principles of low government spending and taxation. The folks concerned about deficits, debt, regulations, spending, and taxes are "extremists" and "radicals," Sevugan says. He tries to tie Brown to Karl Rove, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and--this is not a joke--the Willie Horton campaign ad from twenty years ago. It's a haunted house of Republican goblins.
Once upon a time, Democratic scare tactics were tied to policy--Don't vote for candidate x, he'll cut Social Security and Medicare! But those were the good old days, I suppose. In the Massachusetts special election, the Coakley campaign wants to frighten Democrats into voting through a simple Pavlovian response. Every time we mention Palin, the campaign strategists must think, we'll frighten another liberal into pulling the lever for Coakley.
And in the debate last night she said there are no Terrorists in Afghanistan....at Hot Air...video
Coakley says no more terrorists in Afghanistan

The 19th I believe
She's not George Bush!
Scott Brown
Take Chico's soap. Never give back.
Vote Coakley: it almost rhymes with Clokey, the wonderful creator of Gumby, who just passed away!
He is still being outspent by a big margin when you had the NEA, unions, Big Pharma, Soros’ outfits et al
Yes Jan. 19th
When the hell is this election anyway?
A week from today...plenty of time for the Dems to bus in all of the ACORN zombies they need from around the great liberal northeast
ROTFLMCO Ohaha's not going to MA b/c he got lacerated when he showed up numerous times in NJ last Nov and saw the Dim go down to defeat. Ohaha was electorally castrated when he invested time, money and WH resources in NJ. The NJ race was considered a "squeaker" that would go on till all hours. But two hours after the polls closed, the Repub was declared the winner with a comfortable 4-point margin (would have been higher were it not for Dem voter fraud).
MOMENTS TO REMEMBER Nov 2009 elections clipped the wings of Obama's plans for a permanent Democratic realignment. NJ and Va gubernatorial candidates---the only two 2009 statewide races---won Independents by a 2-1 margin, (66%-33% and 60%-30%, respectively); McCain lost Independents in each state to Obama a year earlier.
========================================
THE OBAMA SLAPDOWN Ohaha was heavly invested in the 2009 NJ gubernatorial race. His carefully-laid plans for installing a permanent Dem majority went haywire. Pulling out all the stops made Ohaha a VERY good target for voters disgusted with Ohahas policies.
OBAMA WAS DESPERATE FOR NJ's CORZINE TO WIN. The NY Times reported:
(a) every TV ad Corzine put on the air was screened by Obama's WH team.
(b) Corzine's aides gave the WH daily briefings.
(c) Obamas pollsters took over for Corzines polling team,
(d) White House operatives were on the ground for internal strategy sessions,
(e) White House operatives were orchestrating obscure pep rallies with Latinos (kept secret from voters),
(f) Ohaha campaigned in the state three times, Biden was there twice.
(g) Ohaha TV ads ran relentlessly in costly NY media markets.
(h) The crooked NJ Democrat Machine was also running at warp speed.
Other pertinent facts:
>> Incumbent Dem Jon Corzine (the wealthy loser) outspent the Repub winner about 4-1.
>> New Jersey has a huge Democratic registration.
>> Corzine bragged he had 20,000 paid union helpers on the ground election day to get out the vote.
>> There was a third party candidate siphoning off Republican votes.
>> Corzine had the power of incumbency.
>> Corzine had the power of a crooked Democrat Machine cooking the vote.
>> Ohaha hid $17.5 BILLION stimlulus in New Jersey.....for Corzine's reelection campaign.
And still Corzine lost decisively.
I sure wish Ohaha would show up in MA. ROTFLMCO.
This election is going to be a Hugh Deal!
