Two arrested after racist graffiti found on Tracy building (Hate crime)

TRACY — One man was booked on a civil rights violation and hate crime enhancement, and another on suspicion of vandalism, after police found racist graffiti on a Tracy office building Saturday night.

Police initally were called to Lowell Avenue and Tracy Boulevard on a report of two men fighting, said Sgt. Tony Sheneman. When they responded, officers found a substantial amount of freshly scrawled graffiti on the back of a dentist's office and on a nearby vehicle. The graffiti was derogatory toward African Americans and Jews, Sheneman said.

One of the men in the fight, 20-year-old Jacob Hicks of Tracy, had the same color of paint on his hands as was used for the graffiti. He was arrested on suspicion of vandalism, a civil rights violation and a hate crime enhancement.

Unbelievable! We have graffiti everywhere in the SF Bay area and the police don't or cannot seem to do anything about it. But if we have one case of someone putting a racial epitaph in graffiti, then they will pursue it like it's a major crime. They will pursue it like it's the crime of the century. It makes the newspapers.

This is not to say I agree with the accused in this. No, not at all. But if you were to put up a swastika on a wall somewhere that was visible, you can bet the authorities would have it painted over or covered in minutes.

I hate ALL graffiti. If I can borrow a term, I'd like to call it JUNK ART.

I agree, I think these guys were wrong and should have to clean it up, but ANYTHING non-PC gets a news story?
