Paging Captain Obvious. Captain Obvious, please pick up the white courtesy phone.
So basically the MSM/SRM is killing people and has been for years. I know a few minutes of CNN or MSDNC would drive anybody’s heart rate up!
I hear them courtesy phones could be dangerous too.. never know who handled it last. ;-)
I wonder what is the active agent in this finding, especially for those of us in front of a computer monitor screen for four or more hours per day, and that is just at work?
I’m certain the the risk of death for humans no matter what they do is 100 percent.
Hee Hee.
I get a kick out of a radio ad for life insurance, that says something like “and you’ll get all of your money back EVEN IF YOU DON’T DIE!”
If someone never dies, I’m sure we’ll hear about it.
: )
Must be a primordial instinct thingy and hormones is my best guess. Lulled into states of calm watching soap operas and then watching Roseanne reruns.. not good. The rot must occur from within altho you’d think the spare tires over the belt might sound alarm too.
Actually, this is pretty interesting.
It say that even if you exercise, if you spend 4 hours in front of the tv, you are in trouble.
That’s a bit scary.
"Correlation does not imply causation"
Yep. I don’t even have a tv, but I sure spend more than 4 hours/day in front of my computer...
Time for another Executive Order...
I bet if you spent those 4 hr. “in front of the TV” on an exercise bike or treadmill, the adverse health effects would go away. Of course, your brain would still atrophy from watching the MSM or PBS.
I wonder, too, if it isn’t the sitting rather than the TV that is the problem.
Two guys have a site called Obesity Panacea, and its focus is primarily the health hazards associated with prolonged inactivity. They cite a study that says the same thing - exercising for an hour or so a day and spending the rest of the day sedentary is not healthy. Standing is better than sitting, and movement, even low-level, is best.
So, maybe I should go clean my house instead of sitting here goofing off here at Free Republic. ;-)
True. Maybe get on the bike for one hour, watch tv for an hour with no exercise for an hour etc.
It indicated 2 hours was fine, but just sitting like a lump for 4 hours was the killer.
I think it is the sitting....the article talks more about the long period of inactivity more than the television.
We sometimes ride an exercise bike while watching television, and I think if you kind of broke up the evening (say rest on the butt for an hour after dinner, than get on the bike for an hour, then rest for an hour and then finish off with 30 minutes of bikiing before bed) would probably nullify the negative health effects.
It appears 4 hours of complete inactivity is the really bad point, while 2 is much less serious.
