The announcement of the successful test, made by the state news agency Xinhua, comes after a week of diplomatic tensions over a US decision to sell advanced Patriot anti-missile systems to neighbouring Taiwan.
"China conducted a test on ground-based midcourse missile interception technology within its territory. The test has achieved the expected objective," said the terse, three-sentence statement by Xinhua. "The test is defensive in nature and is not targeted at any country," it added.
The decision to make the test public, itself unusual, comes after several days of strident complaints from China's defence establishment over the US decision to allow a $3bn deal for 330 PAC-3 Patriot missiles to go ahead.

The Chinese missile defense system has exponentially expanded in the last decade, thanks to the importation of Russian S-300 missile tech.
With that, they can make their airspace impenetrable against all but the B-2 and F-22.

Whitewalls, fog lights, and air conditioning. Cool, all those Chi-com manufactured items I bought at Wal-Mart and Target have really moved the PLA uptown. And dig the new digi-camo!
The pixelated digi-camo is ~50% more effective than the traditional tigerstripe / choc-chip / woodland / desert camo because the human eyes interpret objects like a digital video camera.

The Chump In Chief strikes again.
I guess the stealthyness of the F-22 and B2 are not really that reliable against modern day ground based sam systems.
Thats’s allready taken into account by newer developments in the sector of stand off weapons.
There are differences between the Russian S-300,S-400 SAMs and the knockoffs the Chinese have. The Russians are much more reliable than the Chinese hovever they do follow the same deployment pattern.
The Iranians also follow the same deployment pattern as the Russians and the Chinese.
The latest, with virtually no change but nicer color, is dated June 2009. Interesting that Chicoms haven't whited it out.
I recall that during the Olympics, the rowing and sailing was held outside a big coastal city that had half its buildings whited out by Google.

Missile bases never change or slightly over time.
Ya know, I got an electric pepper grinder for Christmas that was made in China. Right out of the box, it didn’t work. This isn’t the first time I’ve had this experience with Chinese junk either. With that in mind, I’m not terribly worried about their technology any more. My electric pepper grinder that was made in America works just fine btw.
Looks like the oriental express lane for US weapons secrets is open for business again.
Look for (made in USA) Chicom predator drones over Tibet next.
The Chicoms thank Bill Clinton for for the technology. The Chicoms and Arabs built his library and massage parlor for the secrets to this.
“We did not receive prior notification of the launch,” Maj. Maureen Schumann, a Pentagon spokeswoman, said. “We detected two geographically separated missile launch events with an exo-atmospheric collision also being observed by space-based sensors. We are requesting information from China regarding the purpose for conducting this interception as well as China’s intentions and plans to pursue future types of intercepts.”

I guess the F-22 type of stealth was quite obsolete against chinese or russian technology.
At least I would bet all my money that a S-400 would get a good lock on the F-117.
So in the future and present it’s all about drones and about low altitude approaches and certainly about stand-of weapons.
The F-22 is quite useless.
It can’t be deployed in afghanistan because if it fell out of the sky by accident (or pour routine) it would probably end up in china.
It’s pointless to be built in a number that it would make it count strategically because by the time it is actually operative it would be outdated by radar tech.
The remaining strengthes like speed and sensors and agility are superior but probably not worth the money.
In the shown comparison of ground attack profiles - can you imagine how a small, cheap and stealthy UCAV would change the outcome ?
