TSA lied: naked-scanners can store and transmit images
Boing Boing ^ | January 11, 2010 | Cory Doctorow

You know those airport scanners that can see through your clothes, offering an intimate look at your junk and your lovehandles and every other part of you that you keep between you, your spouse, your doctor and the bathroom mirror?

You know how the TSA swore up and down that these machines didn't store and couldn't transmit the compromising photos of your buck-naked self?

They lied.

Never mind the fact that half of the adults don't mind the scanners. I would like to see a pole taken, asking these same adults, do you want your 14 year old son or daughter scanned in the same way. I would bet after thinking about that a minute, they would not be do inclined to be in favor of these scanners.

A "poll", not a "pole".

Next thing you know someone is going to propose that AlQaida and other terrorist operations simply come up with a high explosive that resembles human flesh ~ then roll (not "role") it into something resembling a foot-long hotdog, and strap it on.

To the best of my knowledge the only person in favor of these scanners is Bill Clinton.

I speculated to Ms Plenty just yesterday that the next sensation that will appear on the internet is a bunch of scanner pictures from airports. Everybody knows it will happen and people will know their pictures.

It is going to be a hoot watching Janet Napalatano trying to explain how this could happen to a bunch of pissed off airline passengers.

Get out the popcorn...

Anybody that even heard of ‘technology’ knows that it is so; gee, why would this be a surprise?

Hell, if they are going to use these things I would like a pole installed.

There’s also the issue of possible detrimental effects on health. I’m not sure how these scanners work but if they use any kind of radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum that could have an effect on human cells and genetic material. The idea of using these scanners at airports is not practical or safe. A super-powerful high-tech sniffer device that can detect small traces of explosives and biological materials would probably be much more practical and effective.

Also develop a device that can sniff for minute traces of explosives and biological weapons.

Bbbbuttt... USA Today took a pole, er I mean Poll and over 70 percent were in favor of scanning if it meant they would be safe!

(sarcasm on for the benefit of the libs who want to take our freedoms and privacy away).

Yes, but that is contrary to what the Thousands Standing Around are all about.

I experienced the DMV mentality at LAX recently: lots of ‘agents’ standing and watching the lines approaching ‘screening’ and some of course had a clip-board.
They probably call this ‘profiling’ in their small group sessions.

Me thinks the morons are winning: gooberment jobs, in perpetuity.

That's a good point.

Nobody would want my picture taken by one of those -- but some minimum wage TSA pervert might get her jollies from sending around pics of the younger travelers.

Obama wouldn’t want his wife and kids going through the scanners either.

I was thinking that jihadis could have a lot of fun with explosive detectors. Just happen to spill a tiny bit of gunpowder on the floor where the line to the ticket counter is. Some will get on every piece of luggage that gets dragged through, and set off alerts all day, while the jihadis quietly snicker. After enough false positives, they junk the machines, and the jihadis stroll through with whatever they want.
