Is Harry Reid only a "convention" Mormon? The Salt Lake Trib article -- Harry Reid: A Mormon in the Middle -- mentioned how Today, Reid, with his security escort in tow, likely will be making his home teaching rounds after his ward's three-hour service. Anyone who questions his Mormon credentials should see that, says Jim Vlock, his home-teaching companion.
According to the article, what does Sen. Hatch say? Orrin Hatch, says it's not fair for fellow Mormons to disparage Reid as anything but a devout Mormon..."I can personally tell you that Harry is a good member of the LDS faith and he was expressing a personal opinion that his side feels very deeply about," Hatch says.
So, nonstatist...are we to believe Sen. Hatch who knows Sen. Reid? (Or you who doesn't?)
Please tell us, Nonstatist: does BYU usually invite non-religious Mormons to speak at all-student body, all-faculty rallies? (Cause guess what? Thats exactly what BYU did in October 2007 ensuring Reid spoke to over 4,000 on campus). According to the Deseret News, which covered the event: At the end of his speech, Reid earned a standing ovation from a small percentage of the crowd and applause from the rest.
Tell us, nonstatist, do BYU students & faculty usually applaud ALL "buckets of warm spit" like that?
What is it that these BYU students, BYU faculty members, and BYU administrators knew about Harry that just doesn't match your profile of him?
The guy is for gay marriage...Thats not what Mormonism espouses or what Mormons believe, generally.
What do you mean? The guy, yes, if of course for not protecting one-woman marriage. But then again, how are Mormons, who while protecting one-woman marriage in CA, any different than Harry Reid in talking out of both sides of their mouth on this matter? Lds say they are not in favor of mandating one-woman marriage after death.
They say if you married several spouses in the temple, and were sealed to each "for eternity" to them, you'll be an eternal polygamist. Lds apostle Bruce McConkie, whose book, Mormon Doctrine is still sold in Mormon bookstores everywhere, said that when the Mormon Jesus returned he would re-institute earthly polygamy. (Now how are future Mormons going to protect one-woman marriage when their redefined jesus won't?)
Was McConkie ever defrocked as an apostle? His statements made in his mid-60s revised book (or republishings since) ever condemned by Mormon leadeship? (No)
I think I can argue coherently that he is not devout (earnest or sincere),conscientious (just, upright, honest, faithful), or godly (conforming to the laws and wishes of God)
I will grant you he goes to church and gives testimony. I guess that's something.
