Hawaii can't afford Congressional election

HONOLULU - Cash-strapped Hawaii can't afford to pay for an election to replace a congressman who is planning to step down next month to run for governor, potentially leaving 600,000 urban Honolulu residents without representation in Washington.
Budget cuts have left the state Office of Elections with about $5,000 to last until July, with a special election costing nearly $1 million, interim Chief Elections Officer Scott Nago said.
Until the state finds money or this fall's regularly scheduled elections occur, one of Hawaii's two seats in the House of Representatives will remain vacant.

The money will arrive in an envlope from the WON - watch!
A vacant seat? With the people at present in control on clowngress, I think it’s likely that they will find a way to cheat, and vote an empty seat.
Any action depriving urban residents of representation is a good thing, so far as I can tell...
;-)
As someone who lives in an urban area represented by a Republican (and that has been so since the Goldwater Revolution) words cannot express my disgust with that comment.
If they do not have representation then they should not be taxed.
They could always do what Massachusetts did and change the rules to allow ACORN to appoint a Representative.
And we're still forced to pay taxes anyway.
LOL! Now THAT's a real howler.
If they prioritized properly, they could lay off maybe 2 or 3 of their coddled unionized state workers and save more than enough money.
We've all watched Dems play the shell game of cutting cops, education, libraries....all services valued by taxpayers. They never "threaten" to cut things like the "Committee to Save Butterflies" or other patronage positions. I bet every lousy department in the state---right down to dogcatcher---has a "public relations" staff. (That would be people we pay to lie to us.) Maybe someone should tell the state they don't need all those flaks...after all, it's not hard to speak in public IF YOU'RE TELLING THE TRUTH!
