"The suggestion here is that the American public, being racist, would not accept someone who talked like an African-American and who was particularly dark-skinned. That really does amount to an accusation of racism against the American people."

Truly, truly....Senator Harry Reid's remarks about dialect and race and shocking. There needs to be an investigation.

Has the author of that news story been waterboarded latesly?

Ordinarily, I’d give Dingy Harry the benefit of the doubt, but it’s too much fun to make him squirm. Guess we’re turning into democrats.

Honestly, does anyone think Dr. King’s message would have gotten far if he were speaking ebonics?

I think it's a little different--being "light-skinned" and not speaking a "Negro dialect" made Obama an attractive candidiate to Reid. Therefore the racism is right there, with Reid. Same deal as Jackie Robinson finally breaking the color line in pro sports. The fans ,by and large, didn't care, just so long as he could play baseball; the reluctant owners were racially motivated, not wanting to disturb their profits.

Going to the well of the U.S. Senate awhile back and accusing Rush Limbaugh of being critical of American soldiers?

I'm sorry... but Dingy Harry is a complete idiot who ought to be horse whipped and then thrown into the dung heap of history.

If you were being sarcastic, I probably missed it.

Cheers!

Brit is really standing out as a man's man. An American newsman, journalist and all round patriot as well. I love a man who calls um as he SEES UM and not as a man blinded by ideology!

I agree with Mr. Hume that it's a slap at white folks who are too racist to handle a "dark black" person but it's also a put down of blacks.

"light-skinned" black man "with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one."

So black folks (and liberals) need to be talked to with a "Negro Dialect"?

I wonders what Messers. Sharpton and Jackson might say to that.

Not against the American People actually, he was talking during the Dem primaries and was accounting for the real racism of his own party.

I’ve seen Oprah Winfrey switch her accent on & off depending on her audience. Do you think she’d shriek “You GO, Girl!” in front of a mostly white crowd???

I used to work for CUNY here in NYC. I photographed David Dinkins at an event at Queens College, in front of a white, middle class crowd. No discernible accent. Two weeks later, I saw him on TV at an event in Harlem, talking about the “PO-lice”, and Why the “Ambu-LANCE” didn’t arrive quickly enough to save some mope drug dealer after a shootout with the NYPD... Disgusting on both counts.

Sharpton & Jackson don’t care, for two reasons. First, Reid’s a Lib. Second, there’s no money to be made here.
