There are probably a number of sources. Certainly Saul Alinsky’s command to “Pick the target. Freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.” implies a certain arrogance. In other words, ideology is all and feeds into a certain sense of superiority. You view your target as having nothing to contribute if he/she does not share your ideology. Just call your target names rather than engage in any sort of useful discussion. Don’t listen; don’t make the assumption that anyone other than those with your point of view have anything useful to say. Alinsky wanted us to be polarized and he has succeeded.
I remember when Gerald Ford died. It was pointed out in news accounts that he had invited the leftist Democrat George McGovern to the White House because he had not been invited for awhile. It was a more civil time, a time when the Marxists had not yet entrenched their tentacles into American society.

blah...blah...blah...My mother approved this post
I gave up on civility a long time ago when it comes to liberals and this government. F*** them. I’m going Tombstone on these a**holes. “Tell them Justice is coming and hell rides with me”.
I’ve found myself doing the exact same thing. Composed the message and just said to myself “do I really need to say this?” Often I slip and do it anyway.
You know what, I can’t for the life of me take someone seriously when all of their examples are some of the comments from the rigth and they competely ignore the hateful small mindedness that the left exhibits constantly. They have not seen anything from our side that is even in the same ballpark as comments heard regularly from the left. Get used to it lefitists you started it.
Now this is an example of uncivility and extreme rhetoric.
From the Craig Kilborn show - and - CNN News -
If you need more examples, Joann, you just let me know. I have a million of them.

“as both a teacher”
Why do waste product teachers feel the need to tell us they are teachers?
We know they are stupid, not necessary to open your mouth and confirm it.
As someone who is a liberal in recovery, I have a clear enough memory of the past 53 years to say without equivocation that the smearing of people through insult, casual jests, barbed cruelty, and ironic asides is something which was perfected and promoted by the left.
The flaw of the conservatives is maintaining dignity with people who deserve a sharp punch in the head.
I noticed that practically all of the examples in that article were whining about leftists who were smeared. No tears for Robert Bork, I see.
Here’s my observation. Whenever a leftist calls for civil discourse, it’s a sign that conservatives are ascendent and close to proclaiming ideas that are popular with Americans. There are no calls for civil discourse when the left smears anyone.
Since my mother was a hard core Leftist, she definitely did not approve of what I posted regarding politics.
Btw, my mother called GHWB ‘brain damaged’ and not fit to be president - that was her idea of political debate.
“There are no calls for civil discourse when the left smears anyone.”
Undeniably true.
It is far past time for decent people to wake up and realize that when dealing with scumbags, civility is nothing but a self-imposed handicap.
After a hundred million innocent dead in the twentieth century, no liberal is entitled to the slightest consideration, courtesy, or civility. Liberals should be reviled, abominated, spat upon, even beaten, whenever they have the gall to show their faces in the presence of decent people.
