Michael Steele vs. GOP
The Week ^ | 01/08/2010 | The Week - U.S. NEWS & OPINION

Posted on 01/09/2010 4:57:39 PM PST by Leah at A Better Florida

Wealthy contributors to the GOP are reportedly "shunning" the Republican National Committee over concerns that Chairman Michael Steele may be more focused on promoting his new book and collecting personal speaking fees than on the needs of the party. Since he took over as leader a year ago, the RNC's cash levels have fallen from $22.8 million to just $8.7 million. Steele's response to the wave of censure has been to tell his critics to "shut up" and "get a life." Can he still be an effective leader for the GOP?

Time's up, Steele: Michael Steele needs to go, says Yomin Postelnik in The Sonoran Weekely Review. Not only is Steele "clueless on policy, devoid of ideas and bereft of a competitive political philosophy," he's dragging the GOP down with his latest round of rash remarks. By telling Sean Hannity in an interview that Republicans don't have a chance at re-taking the House of Representatives in 2010, Steele is "deflating" the morale of the party. "Chairman Steele," there are plenty of Democrats "perfectly capable" of attacking Republicans. "They don’t need your help." "An open call for the resignation of Michael Steele"

The first paragraph is a good summary of Steele's shocking ineptitude.

Yomin does a good job of highlighting Steele's media problem. He's one of the best candidates out there.

But then the defenders claim that Steele's warmed to the Tea Party movement. I don't know any activists of any kind who like Steele's leadership.

Steele played to the GOP elites too long. Now he is trying to play to the conservative base and most of them want nothing to do with him. Steele has successfully alienated himself from both sides. I don’t see him lasting.

I think Steele finally understands that the Tea Party movement represents a threat to his tenure, so he tried buttering them up. It’s meaningless, IMHO. The guy is hopeless.

I couldn’t agree more with the first paragraph of this piece. He has proved to be dumb as a rock, totally clueless, and concerned only about himself. The other day, I thought he was channeling Obama. “It’s all about me!”

Time for Steele to say good bye. Forget the country club, executive types and appeal to the common person like Reagan did in his day.

Oh dear, the GOP CAN’T fire Steele, it would be absolute proof that all Republicans are racist.

Not if he is replaced by a real and unapologetic conservative like J. Kenneth Blackwell.

BTW, I know you were being sarcastic, nevertheless Blackwell would be an excellent replacement.

I am donating to the ones I like also. If we get a good leader I my go back to the party. But it is really more fun to help the ones you like. Then your money does not go to a fund raising letter back at you for more money insteaded of to the canidates. I am hopeful for scott brown that would be huge

>>> I am hopeful for scott brown that would be huge <<<

I sent Brown a few bucks yesterday. Today I read that he is now in the lead by a couple of points.

Let me know which candidates you think are the best Conservatives out there. I've got the touch!!

Leah, with respect, you are correct about Steele, but many of us are also disgusted by what passes as republican in South Florida. I am very leery of supporting candidates from your area until I know a great deal about them.

I touched on the urban/rural dichotomy just recently, I do believe that urban philosophy is driving the loss of individual liberty in the nation.

I think it is a matter of surviual for us in 2010. I am not very fired up about donating in the primary but in the general race i plan to go all out. I am more of a lurker. I hope the main people on free republic and other sites help the money flow to the canidates.

“Since he took over as leader a year ago, the RNC’s cash levels have fallen from $22.8 million to just $8.7 million.”

And they tossed away nearly $1,000,000.00 on SCOZZAFAVA?!?!?

Round file is the correct storage facility for GOP ‘past due’ notices.

That would make more sense. Out of 50 Republican candidates down here, only a handful have even made appearances at activist rallies. Interestingly, all who do are pro-life and for limited federal government. They include
US Senate - Marco Rubio, Bob Smith
US House - Allen West, Bernard Sansaricq, Ed Lynch, Dennis Lamb and Robert Lowry. A candidate in central Florida named Tom Garcia is also helping Ed Lynch and the DC Works for Us leaders like him.
State - Tami Donnally, Yomin Postelnik and possible candidate Andrew McCormick. Aand those are literally all I’ve seen. That’s out of at least 50 candidates.
