NEW YORK -- Maybe the award should be renamed Most Valuable Peyton.
Peyton Manning became the first player to win The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player honor four times. The Indianapolis Colts' sensational quarterback romped to the award Saturday in balloting by 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.
He received 39½ votes to 7½ for Drew Brees of New Orleans. Only four players -- all quarterbacks -- earned votes. The other two were Philip Rivers of San Diego (2) and Brett Favre of Minnesota (1).
Manning also won in 2003, 2004 and 2008, breaking a tie with Favre at three MVPs.

Kind of hard to argue with that one.
As amazing as he is...he is an extremely frustrating fantasy QB to own.
This year, probably.
Last year, he didn’t deserve it.
I love this good man!
The official end of the NFL season is the last Peyton Manning commerical!
I think this may improve with more experience with the new receivers. However, sometimes this year he seemed to do just enough to win. I liked the days of lighting up a secondary on the first series with Peyton to Marvin.
What crap.
I found this part interesting. "Manning can be considered part of the truly elite of team sports, along with Wayne Gretzky (9), Barry Bonds (7) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6), the leaders for MVP awards in their sports."
Gretzky and Jabbar are elite. Bonds is a cheater and should have an asterisk next to his name for eternity.
Who is your candidate, p.a.?
This year, probably.
Last year, he didnt deserve it.
I totally disagree. He started the year injured, and underweight. He had absolutely no running game, and still won 12 games on his back.
They would be an 6-10 team without him. When Brady went out; insert Matt Cassell and still win 11 games.
Yeah a lot of the games over the last 2 seasons since his injury were squeakers with field goals...killed me in points!
And the Dolphins would have been 1-15 again without Chad Pennington last year.
Manning did not deserve the MVP last season.
I love the way Peyton shut his critics up. It took many years but he never rose to the bait of reporters and let his play do the talking for him.
The whole Brady-Manning debate was fun to discuss on sports radio but without Manning the Colts are probably not a .500 team most seasons.
He will always be the #1 Vol and I hope he plays for many more seasons. He is an incredible player and seems to be a genuinely nice guy.
Not hard at all. Without Manning, the Colts are still a playoff team. Without Favre, the Vikings are 8-8 at best.
Maybe-and just maybe-if Jim Sorgi wasn’t on IR. But, Curtis Painter? There was this game a couple weeks back. In all the papers and all over the internet. Not a chance.

The numbers are nearly identical for football statistics. And you’re saying he deserved it this year, but not last?
Please.

Last year there was a guy named Chad Pennington who did more for his team than Manning did for his.
The award is Most Valuable Player, not Most Gaudy Statistics.
