Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) apologized today for referring to President Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect" in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.
"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words," said Reid in a statement. "I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments."
The Senate Majority Leader was officially neutral in the primary fight between Obama and then Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). Reid's remarks about Obama were revealed in "Game Change", a book detailing the 2008 race penned by Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.
Reid's apology comes on the same day that a new poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal showed him facing an uphill fight for re-election in 2010. Reid trailed former state Republican party chairwoman Sue Lowden by a 50 percent to 40 percent margin and was behind businessman Danny Tarkanian (R) 49 percent to 41 percent.
Only one in three voters viewed Reid favorably while 52 percent saw him in an unfavorable light in the poll.

President Obama is, indeed, "light skinned". And, for sure, "without a Negro dialect".
These seem to be perfectly accurate, non-demeaning and, thus, unobjectionable descriptors. No different than describing Gov. Sarah Palin as "attractive" and "with a Fargo-esque dialect".
Why in heaven's name would he have to apologize?
Okay, it’s true, and it was entirely relevant to Obama’s campaign and election chances. Obama has finely calibrated his racial presentation since adolescence.
Reid is seventy years old, and “Negro” was the polite term of his youth.
So bleeping what? Just once I would like to see these guys find their balls and refuse to apologize.

“Light skinned?” I think “thin skinned” is more accurate and to the point.

I think the WH is leaking this old news on Reid to force him to walk since he has become radioactive in Nevada, like Daschle in his home state. They probably want Schumer to be the Majority Leader going forward.
But as to the comment, right, Obama says as much about himself but he also wrote he did blow and pals around with Marxists, but no one else can say such things. No one. Not even Uncle Harry.

Look at how his speech patterns change when he’s in front of an “urban” crowd (such as an SEIU rally); all of the sudden, he’s trying to keep it real...
Harry Reid was just speaking from the heart, as he may still be among the minority of Mormons who believe that people of darker skins are under the “Curse of Ham”, forever to be regarded as slaves by the rest of mankind.
Since Resident (Pres_ent) Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., or Barry Soetoro, or Mr Michelle Robinson, or Sock-Puppet, supposedly the son of an out-of-control teenager and a Kenyan exchange student, is of clearly much lighter skin tone than the majority of Americans of African descent, and did not have ancestors who were held in bondage, he apparently escapes this “Curse of Ham”, or at least it lies upon him much more lightly.
In his heart, Harry Reid (along with a number of other liberals) may despise the descendents of the natives of the African continent, and appears to curry Presidential favor with the faintest of praise.
To be fair there are at least two and likely more "black communities." One is indeed beyond redemption and simply needs to die off. There is hope for the others.
