Scott Brown swearing-in would be stalled so health-care reform could pass

It looks like the fix is in on national health-care reform - and it all may unfold on Beacon Hill.

At a business forum in Boston today, interim Sen. Paul Kirk predicted that Congress would pass a health-care reform bill this month.

“We want to get this resolved before President Obama’s State of the Union address in early to mid-February,” Kirk told reporters at a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

The longtime aide and confidant of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who was handpicked by Gov. Deval Patrick after a controversial legal change to hold Kennedy’s seat, vowed to vote for the bill even if Republican state Sen. Scott Brown, who opposes the health-care reform legislation, prevails in a Jan. 19 special election.

I wish Rab would spend more time attacking liberals. Brown is a conservative. He may not be a fall on my sword conservative but he is a conservative in all the ways that matter. Him winning would be like a nuclear bomb going off in the political world. It also is one way that we the people have right now to respond to and indignant President and his cronies who are thumbing their noses at the citizenry. I just wish some of these guys would grow up a bit. I get as angry as they do but some of the negativity is just childish.

It is completely self-destructive and illogical to hear from "conservatives", but that is what they would rather see. If it ain't Reagan running against her, then he doesn't deserve any support from any quarter in any way.

Hello, Cut Off Nose, meet Face.

I didn’t even agree with Reagan on everything. I’m satisfied that Brown is conservative enough and his opponents certainly are.

Ridiculous. Anyone remember NY23?

Washington -- Fresh from his election victory Tuesday, Bill Owens traveled to Washington, D.C., today where he was sworn into office shortly after 1 p.m. and embarked on a busy schedule.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi staged a ceremonial swearing in of Owens at 1:07 p.m. She then hosted a cocktail reception for him. He was accompanied by his wife, Jane, three children and three grandchildren. He was given a standing ovation on the House floor after he recited the oath.

Owens said he will vote for the health care bill likely to come to the House floor tomorrow.

I have to admit, I have been a member since 2004, but I can’t think of many things on the part of supposed conservatives that have made me boiling angry as this attitude has.

I have always viewed conservatism as possessing an intellectual foundation of a blend of logic, realism and pragmatism. This attitude from some “conservative” quarters regarding the candidacy of someone like Scott Brown tears that idea to pieces.

TYPICAL MA hypocrites! They do whatever the heck they want, and whatever benefits the d party, always! Can’t understand how they get away with this when it is a federal issue, but they will do it anyway. Galvin is a slime.

And I have to ask what don’t they like? He isn’t for expanding abortion rights or gay rights. He isn’t a for more spending or more government control. It is like they don’t realize where he is running. The idea that he is even close given his very conservative record should be inspirational not something to gnash teeth at. He isn’t an Olympia Snow or a Susan Collins Republican. He would be a reliable conservative vote from a state that hasn’t produced one in many years. I’ve been working in the North East and I believe it is ripe for a conservative resurgence. We need to stop typecasting regions and instead learn to speak to the common sense conservatism that most people intrinsically understand. It is the opposition that wants to divide us and weaken us and they are succeeding if we oppose someone like Scott Brown. Soon we will have no one left to support.

Ping!!!

'Rats playing their sleazy games again with a new twist!

Let's remember that this Massachusetts election wouldn't be all that important now if they hadn't cheated their way to the 60th Senate seat in Minnesota, where Franken allegedly "beat" Coleman in a recount.

Right. See my post at #52.

Someone else on this thread mentioned that this attitude is like a circular firing squad. That pretty much hits it on the head.
