also, keep in mind the impact on the remainder of our “sources”. Now all of them are under suspicion. All of them will have to be reevaluated, maybe dropped. A whole new batch cultivated cleanly, from scratch. AQ will have a great chance of figuring out who they are by careful observation over the next few months.
This will no doubt make a bunch of peopke at CIA very paranoid. Reminds me of Jim Angleton and the Nosenko affair in the 60s and how he became convinced that all our agents were really KGB doubles and it basically ruined the effectiveness of our entire operation.
This will have repurcussions far beyond just the bombing.
I also wouldn’t be too quick to blame Obama. After all, the Ames and Hanssen debacles both happened under Reagan/Bush and Bush was even a fmr DCI.
Under such circumstances, an enemy of America probably rise pretty high up in our government, I would imagine.

I disagree with this "wasting" of an asset. I don't think of him as an "agent" as much as a sleeper... like a land mine or delayed timed munition. That was his job, I believe. To get as high up the food chain and kill as many high ranking assets as possible. It would be the poor man's Predator drone.
When we hear of a drone or cruise missile taking out the "head" or "chief" of this or that faction of Al-Qaeda that is the "waste" of a couple of million dollars on soft targets. You get my drift.
The "jihad" isn't for passive overthrow of the United States. It's for the destruction and laying to waste of our country and lives. Big difference. The communist want our money and power.. the jihadist want us DEAD. One will use a neutron bomb or EMP the other will use a hydrogen bomb, poison all the water, release bacterial warfare on the cities and then bomb all the survivors.
I'd be more worried about Secret Service Agents, Pentagon mid-level bureaucrats, Air Traffic controllers, airline flight officers, medical doctors, civil engineers on work sites and truck drivers of hazardous or flammable materials.
Bunch of little time bombs just waiting to go off.
What happens is when someone gets fed up or makes peace with suicide then off to the jihad they go. One man with a rifle, one man with a jet, one man with a satchel charge, one man running around a hospital with knowledge of medicines, toxins and bacteria. Yeah, I'd be worried... but that's just me. Our President knows that the white Christians are the real problem with this country.

You never know. Obama may have had hopes of another 9/11 as a pretext for demanding Emergency Powers and rallying the nation to his banner (”Reichstag moment”, etc) but I think the cumulative effect of these last few incidents—murdered recruiter, Maj. Hasan, fruit-of-the-loom bomber, CIA casualties—and the public ire they have raised, are bringing the point home to him that now if we are on the receiving end of a major terrorist hit, he is toast.
Again, it’s a matter if self-preservation will overcome his ideology, never an issue with Clinton.
In response, President Barack Obama will likely be obliged to adopt counterterrorist methods that could make his administration as tough as his predecessor's.Yeah, and Zippy's in a bathtub, it's on Mars.
The Pakistani Candidate will with Holder keep things fouled up. The heads of the Intel Agencies will keep their mouth’s shut. Zero will most likely complete his three years then move to Hawaii. The United States Supreme Court will throw out the pending cases, it is to hot to handle. Might stir up the masses. And if zero where impeached, then something where to happen to slow Joe.... the majority of the court must wince and tear as to think who would be in line to become POTUS.
He gets it alright. What he gets is that terrorism from the mideast has once again visited our shores - and under his command it is likely to happen again - bringing more crises to "not waste".
When the goal is not to preserve the constitution, but rather acquire power, things like that could make a Reichstag fire unnecessary.

It certainly looks as though Pakistani intelligence played a significant role in the operation; I’m guessing they assisted in identifying the agents, getting the plant in place, feeding him “useful” information, and preparing the sophisticated explosives.
It does sound like a state had to be involved to get information such as who the agents were and where and when they would be meeting. When Hezbollah blew up a building full of CIA agents in the 80s, they got this sort of info from Iran who got it from Syria who got it from Russia.
