PHOENIX — Two officials said Thursday night they have been subpoenaed to answer questions next week before a federal grand jury about a high-profile Arizona sheriff who gained attention for aggressively cracking down on illegal immigration.

In statements read by a county spokesman, Maricopa County Manager David Smith and Deputy County Manager Sandi Wilson said they met with a federal prosecutor to discuss the case and will testify Wednesday.

We knew it was just a matter of time before they went after Arpiao...the man is just too unafraid; too strong....I wish he were younger so that he could run for national office.

I’m fairly certain he’s still immune, isn’t he?

The feds are colluding with the local crooks to get Joe. At the heart of the matter:

Arpaio and an ally are embroiled in nasty legal disputes with county officials and judges. Two county supervisors and one county judge have been criminally charged in investigations by Arpaio and County Attorney Andrew Thomas.

Last month, Arpaio and Thomas filed a federal racketeering lawsuit against a group of county administrators, judges and attorneys, accusing them of participating in a conspiracy to hinder an investigation into a $341 million court building under construction in Phoenix and the investigation of Supervisor Don Stapley.

I wish I were on that jury. There’s absolutely no way I would go after him, except to have a beer with him and give him a medal.

Looks like someone is going to have to prove or disprove Sheriff Joe’s ‘probable cause’ beyond a reasonable doubt. ;-)

It’s a sad day in the U.S. when a man that does the job he’s overwhelmingly elected to do is continually hindered by the feds.

The feds don’t have IMPORTANT stuff to do? Like securing the borders and investigating corruption in Washington and... on and on and on.

I guess that’s why it’s called the JUST US Department. And we ain’t the US mentioned.

Start arresting Federal Agents for Attempting to usurp your authority granted under the AZ Constitution. When one considers there are ONLY 3 FEDERAL CRIMES listed in the Us Constitution, Treason, Piracy, and Counterfeiting, Arrest All of them for Acting outside the Boundary’s of and contrary to the Constitution with no apparent Legal Authority.

Think about the consequences first. A spontaneous "spark" would be doomed to failure. It must start as a group of states abandon the Federal system, then there's a chance. Second, we'd be in for a blood bath. Oh, hell..... why try to be rational. Ammo and MRE's

You’re assuming the armed forces made up of volunteers from all 50 states would fire on citizens first.

This isn’t like the civil war where units were made up of local units all from the same general area of a state, things are completely different now of course.

Will men stationed at Ft. Hood fire on their brothers in the Texas National Guard if ordered to? How many commanders would tell the President to stuff it up his a** if they received that order, I’m betting today all of them myself.

I'm a neo-con alright, a neo-confederate that is..

Is a "Arpaio" Division in the neo-con army in our future?

Joe Arpaio’s favorite cause is Joe Arpaio. Pink underwear and balogna sandwiches, aside from boosting Arpaio’s reputation for “toughness”, have managed to save Maricopa County money — but have not improved the crime or recidivism rates which, for a sheriff, are kinda important.

This has the same smell as Austin, TX District Attorney Ronnie Earl going after Tom Delay. He kept putting together Grand Juries until he got the right combination of radicals.

“.....He kept putting together Grand Juries until he got the right combination of radicals.”

...that wouldn’t be too hard in Austin(or Chapel Hill/Ann Arbor/Berkley either for that matter)
