Sarah Palin will headline first-ever Tea Party Convention (She has a huge opportunity here)
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | Wednesday January 06, 2010 | Patrik Jonsson

Almost 1-1/2 years since she shook up American politics with her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is set to headline another landmark political event: the first-ever Tea Party Convention next month in Nashville, Tenn. But with an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll ranking a generic “Tea Party” as more popular than either Democrats or Republicans, many experts see the Tea Party event as a potential milestone for a mounting, even transformational, force in US politics.

Against that backdrop, writes Mr. Kurtz, “The tea types can either blossom into a Perotista-style third-party movement or be subsumed to some degree by the GOP.” Can the Tea Party movement unify itself? Indeed, the Nashville event is not about chartering a new political party to represent conservative ideals like low taxes and states’ rights, but more about unifying to take on “Obama, Pelosi and Reid this year,” writes Judson Phillips, head of Tea Party Nation,

But if the Tea Party movement stays largely independent and uses its grass-roots network to help swing contested elections, other analysts say,“Looks like both grand parties will have to court the tea party supporters because many of them are independents from the purple states,” writes Ellie Velinska of Red State

-snip-

Now enter Palin. The former Alaska governor has already expressed her simpatico feelings for the Tea Party movement, and her high-profile presence and Facebook-touted preferences for the individual over the collective will help guarantee that eyes and ears will focus on Nashville next month. Agreeing to appear at a major Tea Party event also gives Palin a larger platform to criticize the president and Congress, and it guarantees news coverage, potentially building momentum for a future campaign. “This is perfect for her, made for her,” says Abramowitz.

NOTE: This Tea Party convention is huge for the American people but also for Sarah Palin, all eyes will be on her that night. I believe that a least CSPAN and FOX will carry her speech Live....and I bet MSNBC and CNN might follow too...Palin has an advantage that Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty or anybody else doesn't have at this moment: Star power, where even ordinary people not very much into politics will pay attention to and listen to, a person where as much as the media despises, yet it never ignores her.....She has an opportunity to give the "SPEECH", everyone is looking for to a broad based audience.

Should be quite an event! She was on Hannity’s radio show and said she looked forward to this election season and throwing her support to conservative candidates.

Boy Sarah is one smart cookie. She will be able to run as an independent AND a Republican. Romney is captive to the GOP and Obama/Hillary captive to the Demonrat party. Sarah will hold both the middle AND the right.

I don’t know...but I do believe that it will be a huge event nationally....I live in Memphis, so that’s about a two hour drive for me, I’m tempted on going but I heard that tickets are high for her speech

(note* it’s the tea party people asking for a high price not Palin)

I hope she comes with a plan - 5 bullet points to run on in 2010 and 2012 - speeches are great but we need a solid plan to campaign on - not just that we are running against the Democrats.

Palin $100k To Speak At Tea Party Event?

Dan Riehl is wanting to know if this rumor is true. Anyone heard anything about a speaker's fee?

exactly - we also need a plan that answers the gotcha questions of abortion and homosexuality.....something akin to “ask my constituents....this is a Representative Republic...next question”

There is no word if there is a speaker fee but I’ve heard that the Tea Party people are charging a over $100 dollar amount if people want to be there will she speak.

But courting what many call a fringe and inchoate movement carries huge risks, argues Alan Abramowitz, a political scientist at Emory University, in Atlanta.

Anyone doubt we are in a religious war?

It costs a lot of money to put on a convention - ever been a delegate to a national convention?

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE

Is Freedom a priority for us?

Or will we let what may be our best chance to save our freedoms slip from us - forever - because of the "high price"?

We get the gov't we deserve. If we aren't willing to 'pay the price', we don't deserve it.

And we can tell our kids they live in serfdom because we didn't want to pay for their freedom.

I hadn’t heard about that yet - interesting - hope she does something soon - it is time to get the republican/conservative party platform together....
