Susan Powell's husband expected to pack up home in Utah
Salt Lake Tribune ^ | 01/06/10 | Melinda Rogers

As family and friends of missing West Valley City mother Susan Powell marked a somber milestone Wednesday, her husband, Joshua Powell, returned to Utah for the first time in weeks.

Joshua Powell since Christmas has been in his hometown of Puyallup, Wash., where his and Susan Powell's families live. He was expected to arrive in Utah on Wednesday to pack his belongings for a return to Washington, friends and a spokeswoman for Susan Powell's parents said.

Friends previously told The Tribune that Powell was fired from his job and has no income in the state.

A spokeswoman for Chuck and Judy Cox, the parents of Susan Powell, said the family was told Joshua Powell planned to return to Utah briefly this week.

Joshua Powell left the couple's two sons, Charlie, 4, and Braden, 2, with his father during his trip to Utah....

The Coxes are observing the month anniversary of Powell's disappearance by spreading the word through a social media blitz.

"We're doing everything we can to find her," spokeswoman Shelby Gifford said. "It's hard to believe it's been a month."

Gifford said the family hasn't learned any new information about Susan's disappearance from Joshua Powell. Chuck Cox's communication with his son-in-law has been "perfunctory," simply discussing subjects like when he would pick up the boys from Chuck's house.

Gifford said Chuck Cox has attempted to question his son-in-law about Susan's disappearance, but Joshua has avoided the topic....

I realize he's lost his job, but leaving town just heightens my suspicions about the guy.

If he’s not guilty, why the hell isn’t he leading the charge to find her. He’s guilty as sin.

I am almost certain the killers involved in OJ’s case also performed this heinous crime.

His story doesn't add up to me.

He's been in Washington State for a month? Sure hasn't been looking very hard for his wife, has he?

As someone who is able to watch the local news coverage of this (in S. Utah), I have to say that I find the SLC police less than impressive. They let this guy have a lot of leeway, early in the case, including the whole rental car thingy.

Had this happened in a big city back east, it’s almost a sure thing that he’d be in jail by now.

I wouldn't discuss it either, being a person of interest. Mr. Cox would go straight to the cops if the guy said anything at all he didn't agree with. Anything he says could be used against him if he's guilty. Anything he says could be used against him if he's innocent. Joshua should've "lawyered up" on day one.
Never, never, ever talk to the police by yourself.
