The numbers of the CT US Senate race. Public Policy Polling has just released their new numbers for CT-Sen. A stark contrast to what they had been. When Chris Dodd retired last night his seat went from one of the most vulnerable to one of the safest for Senate Democrats. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal leads all three of the Republicans in the race by at least 30 points in polling we conducted Monday and Tuesday night before Dodd's announcement. Blumenthal is unusually popular, especially in hyper partisan times when voters like few politicians. 59% have a favorable opinion of him to just 19% who see him negatively. It's no surprise that he's liked by 71% of Democrats and 60% of independents, but even Republicans view him favorably by a 37/35 margin. It doesn't take a lot of hands to count the number of Democratic politicians with positive numbers among GOP voters these days.
Blumenthal leads Rob Simmons 59-28, Linda McMahon 60-28, and Peter Schiff 63-23. It would take an epic collapse for him not to be Connecticut's next Senator.

Anybody have a hangover from the morning celebration?
The Democrats are crafty. Dodd was a lost seat, but they knew the replacement would win...
I thought the jubilation last night was a bit premature but I didn’t want to be a killjoy.
What a shame. Dodd throws himself on the grenade (of his own making), and he’ll walk away with either a plumb administration job, or he make buckets of cash as a paid lobbyist.
IMHO the CT GOP should start a negative campaign against Blumenthal. The rats would never hesitate to do it, so start now. Find every dirty little thing about him and start pumping it out. At the very least, make him sweat for it.
He will also always vote with the liberal Rats. So we have gained nothing in Delaware.

LOL. My Left Nutmeg is in hyperspin. We’ll see what happens in November.
First thing I would ask Blumenthal is if he favors investigation of Dodd for corruption in office.
If he does not favor, why not?
They’ve got the Glenn Beck interview for starters.
That’s ok when the dust settles people will realize it’s the Democrats they are mad at, not just Dodd . This guy will say the same things Dod was saying and act just like Dodd. The bad stuff about Dodd personally was just window dressing.
Run against Dodd whether he is on the ballot or not.
WHY are you posting a blog that touts it is “Where conneticutt Dems scratch their progressive itch.”
ARE WE SUPPOSE TO TAKE THIS SERIOUS?
Rove was talking about this Democratic poll on FNC this afternoon. He said once Blumenthal begins addressing national issues the numbers will drop.
BTW, did anyone see him sidestep health care questions on Cavuto this afternoon?
Well it is good to learn how the liberal side “ticks”.
Yep. Start now. It would we the height of stupidity (so we should expect it) for them to wait. Go at it now, especially since it won’t bounce directly on the possible candidates.
You're dead on in this. What CT needs in this context is a hyper-conservative candidate who will attack the whole notion of Democrat party politics not just he individual. It is a tipping point. Tie Blumenthal to every Dodd/Democrat scandal even remotely related to CT and then tie every national Democrat scandal to him as well.
Regards,
TS
Hey, if all those well-to-do stupid folks in CT don’t mind footing the bill for everyone else’s healthcare, so be it. Only idiots would vote another rat in after what dodd and his cronies have done to this country. They deserve what they get.
Big deal, so Dems only lose 7 seats rather than the 8 they were going to lose. We still win by having driven one of the Senate’s great scumbags out of the US Senate.
