Rahm Emanuel reported eyeing mayor's job (Chicago)

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- There's word this morning that President Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, already is looking at life beyond the White House and that he might be eyeing the 5th floor at Chicago's City Hall.

It was no secret that then-Chicago Congressman Rahm Emanuel was less than thrilled when the newly-elected president asked him to give up his seat in the House to become the White House chief of staff a year ago.

Washington Post columnist Sally Quinn tells Newsradio 780 she's heard from people close to Emanuel that he's told them he's almost ready to leave.

"He's said, 'The job of chief of staff is an 18-month job, it's a burn-out job.' He's made it quite clear that he's not happy and that he's totally stressed all the time and that he's thinking of running for mayor of Chicago," Quinn said.

Quinn doesn't know whether that would be contingent on Mayor Daley retiring or whether Emanuel might challenge him in the 2011 election. In any case, Quinn believes by next fall, Emanuel will either be gone from the White House or at least will have announced that he's leaving.

I suspect he believes that the Chicago mayor’s office is where the power really is in this country.

The only thing left for him to decide is how he goes. Asprin overdose, a multiple gunshot suicide, or resignation.

The Daleys don't commit suicide, they cause it. The only why Rahm gets to be mayor is if Daley decides he doesn't want the job any more. The Daley brothers wield absolute, unlimited, and unfettered power over this city. Dick gets 75% of the vote in Saddam Husein type elections. Rham just isn't in that league of corruption. It is like Sunny trying to take over from Don Vito Corleone. It isn't going to happen unless the Don wants it to.

No kidding.

Just how psychologically ill are the people of Chicago to even think of voting for Rahm Emanuel as their mayor?

"Dead Fish" would make Daley look like an Eagle Scout by comparison.

Why would Emanual be considering taking on the Daley machine now?

It's likely he won't. It's just an excuse to try to explain why he's out of the WH (save face).

I predicted months ago that Emmanuel would be gone this year. Obowma's popularity is way down due to his far, far left stance.

In order to bring his numbers up and try to get re-elected, he's going to have to moderate. He can't do this with Emmanuel as Chief of Staff. He needs someone who is perceived as a bit more "moderate" in order to work a little closer w/Congress.

Chicago "elections" are as real as Oliver Stone movies, or Stephen King novels, or Obama campaign promises. If there was an actual parallel reality that real live votes by breathing voters would be cast in an honestly counted Cook county election, there would be 50,000 democrats looking for a good lawyer.

Ain't gonna happen...

LOL - because burned-out people are perfect for the low-stress job of mayor of Chicago, right Rahm?

Or is it merely that by then you'll have accomplished what you came to DC to do?

If Onada puts Dodd in Treasury, according to some rumors, I don’t think The Marxist Usurper will be moderating his policies.

With all due respect, some people voted for the man precisely because they were convinced (or convinced themselves) he would move to the center once elected. He cannot move to the center even if he wanted to. Pelosi, Reid and whoever else is pulling his strings will not let him.

I agree that Emanual’s proposed run for Chicago Mayor is probably a face saving device. But I think he’s being pushed aside because of his failure to deliver the Marxist agenda. Emanual’s replacement may give the appearance of a move to center. But the Marxist agenda will be pursued just as ardently.

Rahm may have bigger fish to fry than going back to Chicago.

Could Rahm be getting a top level job with the Israeli military? The Israelis are Rahm's bosom buddies. Rahm met secretly with Yaki Dayan, Israel's Consul, in Los Angeles just 2 1/2 weeks ago.

One of Emanuel's proudest moments during his tenure in the Clinton administration was when he directed the details of the "Mideast Peace Ceremony" (the 127th "Mideast Peace Ceremony" to date). Rahm choreographed the famous handshake between Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO leader Yasser Arafat, in the 1993 Rose Garden signing ceremony.

This event (and the subsequent check-pocketing ceremony for coming to the peace table) touched Emanuel's political sensibilities due to his lifelong personal and family ties to Israel. No one knows how Emanuel felt when, predictably, war broke out between the "peace partners" shortly thereafter. (And the checks weren't returned, either).

Circa 1990 Rham Emanuel was a volunteer for “Sar’el”——the three-week Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) training program to train civilians. Rahm Emmanuel volunteered in a program for civilian service in the IDF, and worked on brake components for APC’s and tanks in an IDF motor pool.

Rahm is lacking part of a finger and for many years went around claiming that he’d lost it in actions against the enemy in a tank.

Course, if Rahm fought in the military of foreign government, that would negate his American citizenship (US citizens forfeit their citizenship when they serve in the military of a foreign government).

THIS MUSTA MADE INTERESTING FAMILY DINNER CONVERSATION Rahm's father was an Israeli who was part of the Hagganah---the underground resistance movement under the British Mandate. The Hagannah blew up the King David Hotel, killing hundreds of innocent people.

The people of Chicago would be thrilled to have Emanuel on board. He is “their kind of man.”

he would move to the center once elected. He cannot move to the center even if he wanted to

On the contrary, he has already stepped to the right on several issues (bombing Yemen, upping the troops in Afganistan, backing off on prosecutions of Bush officials). It is not out of ideology because that has not changed; it is out of circumstances and necessity. He has lost 20% of independent voters and bringing on board a Chief of Staff who is perceived to be more moderate will be done to "work more with Congress" and staunch the damage in the polls.

But I think he’s being pushed aside because of his failure to deliver the Marxist agenda

No, Rahm has done excellently in delivering the Marxist agenda. Socialized health care, prison move to Chicago, Khalid Sheikh tried in NYC, stimulus bill. But now the previously clueless public are increasingly on to it.

Emanual’s replacement may give the appearance of a move to center

EXACTLY my point.
