The Iraqi government plans to convert the Tomb of the Prophet Ezekiel, one of the most sacred sites for Christians and Jews, into a massive new mosque.
What’s more, the Iraqis intend to erase all Jewish markings from the tomb so that no indication of its historic significance will remain for future generations.
The plan to transform the ancient burial site into a mosque was reported this week by Ur News, the Iraqi news agency, and Shelomo Alfassa, Director of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries.
Mr. Alfassa says that Iraq’s Antiquities and Heritage Authority “has been pressured by Islamists to historically cleanse all evidence of a Jewish connection to Iraq - a land where Jews had lived for over a thousand years before the advent of Islam.”
The desecration of the tomb, Mr. Alfassa adds, is taking place under “the pretext of restoring the site.”
Similar confirmation comes from Professor Shmuel Moreh, Israel Prize Laureate in Arabic Literature and Professor Emeritus at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, who says that he is aware that the Hebrew inscriptions have been erased and that the plans for the new mosque are well underway.
The ancient burial site of Ezekiel is located in Al-Kifl, a small town south of Baghdad.
Ezekiel, whose prophecies included the Valley of the Dry Bones and the return of the Jews to Israel, lived in the sixth century B.C., having accompanied the exiled Judeans to Babylon.

I can’t see this president acting to prevent this desecration. Perhaps President Bush can speak out. We sent hundreds of thousands of soldiers over there for this to be the result?
God is not the God of the dead, but of the living! In contrast, all Muslims are “dead while they live”.
Solution: Jesus, the one they refuse to come to.
Par for the course. They didn’t erect those two mosques on the Temple Mount by accident. They’d put one where the Vatican sits if they were able.

There is one "sign of Christianity" the Islamonazis shall NEVER eradicate -- the emptiness of Jesus' tomb after he AROSE FROM THE DEAD, victorious over sin and death. And that's the only "sign" we really need, praise the LORD.

Why don’t we have Israel give the the Dome of the rock? Then the can have their Mosque in Iraq. Israel doesn’t need that Uqly Gold dome on one of its holy sites!

Muhammad’s grave lies within the confines of what used to be the house of Ayesha, his wife. During his lifetime it was adjoining the mosque - however in modern times, it has become a part of the mosque itself. The importance of the mosque predates the death of the prophet, and thus the grave itself is not the reason for the particularly high sanctity of the mosque. However, the grave of the prophet has become the focal point of the mosque and millions of visitors come to it every year.
Muhammad is buried next to the first two caliphs, Abu Bakr and Umar. Umar was gifted a spot next to Muhammad by his wife Ayesha, which had originally been intended for her. There is an empty grave within the tomb area meant for Jesus upon his return as the Messiah.
Muhammad’s grave itself cannot be seen as the area is cordoned off by a gold mesh and black curtains. As per Muslim tradition, the grave itself is not embellished or decorated and is two cubits high. The grave is marked by an austere green wooden dome above it, built by the Ottoman Turks. This dome has become universally emblematic of both the Prophet himself, as well as his beloved city of Medina.”
Sounds to me like his oh-so-mortal rotting corpse is still in there.

Islam has spent 1,400 years destroying the achievement of human civilization, and the sooner it is flushed down the sewer of history the better.
Putting your shrine on top of the religion you supplanted is an old established game and one we Christians aren’t too bad at ourselves.
That said, if this report is verified from a more neutral source, I’d like to see the same level of horror as acrrued to the Taliban;s attack on the Bamiyan Buddhas...
