A source tells Political Wire that Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) is ending his re-election campaign. A fundraiser scheduled for tonight was canceled and all campaign staff was sent home in the middle of the day.
The decision does not appear to be fundraising related which has reportedly gone better than expected.
Emails to campaign staff have not been answered.
Update: Marc Ambinder also reports Ritter is dropping bid.
BTTT
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! YIPEE!!!
GRRRRREAT news! Any rat collectivist would be imprisoned in a just world...but at this time this will have to do.
Actuallly, this is bad news. Ritter would have been easy to defeat. This opens up the field for Romanoff or a more electable Dem to run. (Not that I think anyone with a D will win this election). The worst would be if Hickenlooper decides to run for either senate or Gov. He is fairly popular as the mayor of Denver.
This is huge for Colorado. The dem dominoes are beginning to fall. Now let’s see what happens to Ritter’s hand-picked Senator Bennet!!!
Don’t know a thing about him. But this report surely raises question. What skeleton is about to drop out of his closet?
In Michigan today Lt Governor John Cherry announced that was dropping his bid for the top spot as well.
Great News. Ritter is out. Pass on to other Colorado FReepers!
Dead woman or live boy?
Was he caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy?
Internal Rat polling data must be REALLY bad nationwide!
No skeleton. He is very unpopular and has the additional handicap of a D behind his name. No way he would have been re-elected. I suspect he got pressure from the dems to drop out and allow someone with a better chance to run. This may not be the best news for Colorado - he was eminently beatable. I wonder who they will run now.
This is looking like 1994 all over again, awesome.
Look, here’s another one! It doesn’t take Karl Rove to see what this points to.
That was what I was afraid of when I read this. Colorado has plenty of libs to tee up who may be more electable.
what sucks is that all these failed Dems are dropping out of reelections and actually opening the door for another lib Dem to get elected. This is one year where it doesn’t pay to be an incumbent Dem. In an open election, the new candidates can offer their own fresh new version of government solutions.
Maybe Romanoff to keep him from being Bennet’s spoiler?
America Rising ;)
