GOP chairman doubts Republicans can retake House
AP ^

WASHINGTON – GOP Chairman Michael Steele thinks Republicans have "screwed up" for the most part in the years since Ronald Reagan was president. And, he adds in an interview on the heels of his new book's release, Republicans won't win back the House in fall elections and might not be ready to lead even if they do.

That forecast of failure sparked a pushback Tuesday at the GOP's own National Republican Congressional Committee, whose aim is to elect Republicans, and delight at its counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

How many here believe that Steele got his job via the "diversity" route?

Republicans wanted to jump on the minority bandwagon.

Who does Steele work for, is he a democrat plant? He really knows how to take advantage of the momentum from conservatives. He instills such confidence. Not

We bypass him completely and donate directly to the candidate of our choice.

Exactly right, GraceG. Thanks for excellent observation!

I saw him on Cavuto today too. Did you hear him say, that if he wasn’t the GOP chairman he would be a Tea Party participant? The only thing he said that made sense was that Neopolitan fell far short of doing her job and being qualified for it.

A question to all—what was the generic ballot in say, oct of 94—when we retook the house and senate??

Was it higher than 9% ahead then??

Consider the source. It’s a pro-Dem hit piece.

He may have said that he did not know if the GOP could win a majority, but I don’t see any problem with expressing that opinion. You want to motivate your people to vote, and you want to reduce expectations. The part about not being able to lead even if they do win is purely AP’s bias. Nothing that he was quoted as saying anywhere in this article comes close to that.

What an uninspiring, negative loser. Just STFU, Steele!

Absolutely. If Ronnie were the chariman now, do you think he would talk about losing or winning?

The GOP is useless. They should step aside and let the grass roots save the country.

Ok, even I could do better than this as GOP Chairman. At least, I have a decent understanding of what the RATS are about and why and how they must be defeated.

Good grief.

I do not know.

Perhaps pressure on those that put him in. Perhaps the threat to every republican politician that without his immediate removal, they will lose all of the conservative base.

This defeatist is going to help the dems bring us down.

POLITICO 44

Michael Steele said Tuesday that if he was not chairman of the Republican National Committee, he’d be a tea party protester.

“As I like to tell people — long before there was this big push on tea parties — if I wasn’t doing this job, I’d be out there with the tea partiers,” Steele said during an interview with Fox News’s Neil Cavuto.

Steele said the “schism” between the anti-tax protesters and the GOP is “overrated” — despite the fact that tea party organizers refuse to align themselves with the Republican Party.

“The reality is there’s enough things we have in common to fight for than to waste time fighting against each other on one or two things that don’t really matter,” the RNC chairman said, though he did not elaborate on which issues are not important.

Whose side is he on anyway. It was a mistake to hire him for that job. He’s obviously not up to the task.

This would be a better thread if more people read the article before commenting. It's pretty clear that there's a lot more writin' than readin' here.

Okay, I’ll agree, who are these Republican’s? We want their names, what they did and what needs to be done to correct their failures! Second, did these same screw-ups get monies or support from the local and national committees. Third, remove support and denounce these RINOs! Fourth, and for good measure denounce McShame and run a candidate in his stead; if he changes parties so what, he would not be doing anything different than what he does now.

Exactly! Also think it is time for Steele to resign. All this crap from the RNC that you need to be a member of the RNC in order to run it has shown that shouldn't even be a factor. Ken Blackwell who ran and some members wouldn't vote for him because he was not a member of the RNC, would have been a much better choice. Steele is spineless. Cannot believe at one time I wanted him as VP -- I was dead wrong.
