One of the most consistent refrains heard within the Tea Party movement is that it should remain independent, that it should not allow itself to be co-opted. The entity against which this warning is sounded, the one that the Tea Partiers fear will subvert the purity and autonomy of their movement, is the Republican Party. Certainly, this fear is understandable. Having seen the Republican "leadership" in action over the past decade, I and many other conservatives are less than confident in the ability or even the desire of the GOP leadership caste to represent and advance conservative principles. Even though it has been recently revealed that current RNC chairman Michael Steele, in his new book, recognizes the fact that the GOP strayed from its core principles after Reagan left office (even singling out the two Bushes who served presidential terms), this admission appears to be a day late and a dollar short, especially given Mr. Steele's own complicity in this drift from principle. Yes, in this sense, the Tea Parties have a point who wants Mike Steele, John McCain, or Lindsey Graham trying to horn in on their popularity and ruin their image?
However, this is not the hijacking that I want to warn against today....

Ill hitch my wagon to the conservative Tea Party Movement.
And fear not, The Tea Party Movement will pick up a lot of Reagan Democrats and independents along the way.
Good point...and this is what the “No Tea Party Third Party” RINO-Liberals are afraid of.....the Tea Party will start bringing in Reagan Democrats and Independents.
I am totally wary of anyone who wants Tea Partiers to join the GOP....staying GOP will only ensure McCain, Graham, and other Liberal RINOs get elected.....the GOP will just try to marginalize the Tea Party voters to continue to run RINOs.....in fact, this is already being done. The marginalization of the Tea Party by the GOP and its RINO supporters are doing this every time they whine about a Tea Party Third Party
Here is a suggestion, race will not be an issue and niether will love of country and his conservative values!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP2p91dvm6Ms

I have seen first hand at various Tea Party events and have heard the same from others in different states.
The anti war Ron Paul loons have high jacked the Tea Party group.
Many Conservative Republicans won’t return especially seeing the Ron Paul loons handing out 9/11 Truther papers
to see a Truther movie.
There are two groups who would like to see an independent Tea Party. One is the DNC, because it would split the conservative vote and give them a permanent majority. The second is the GOP leadership, because they would finally be rid of the conservatives who keep spoiling their party.
Sure, the GOP leadership would like to win, but if winning means having to pretend to be conservative, they’d rather be McCain, they’d rather be the graciously loyal opposition, forever reaching across the aisle to magnanimously help the majority Dems enact their only-slightly-watered-down agenda, year after year into perpetuity.
The writer is right. The Tea Partiers need to seize control of the precinct where they live. Did you get a crowd at your Tea Party shindig? Thats who needs to show up at the precinct meeting, just about that rowdy and ready to rumble. Its your party, and you know what you need to do.
We need a new GOP leadership in the worst way. We need principled leadership, and that principled leadership has to come from us. We’re the party, not them, not the Steeles, the McCains, the Grahams, the guys who keep embarrassing themselves and selling us out year after freaking year.
Its time for them to go. Its going to be rough for a while. But they’ve got to go.
in fact, this is already being done.
We almost got a scalp in New York.
And we GOT a scalp today in Fla, with that arrogant, Son of Crist, Jim Greer.
“I agree, the GOP should not take over the Tea Party, but I can see it working together, provided the GOP gets the message to wake up.”
When it lost control of Congress in 2006, the GOP didn’t get it.
When it lost the Presidency AND even the votes to filibuster in 2008, it STILL didn’t get it.
The same pack of poltroons is running the GOP now as under Bush II and THEY STILL DON’T GET IT!
The GOP is sick. Only very strong medicine can revitalize it.
Unlike the other groups you mentioned, the Tea Party people represent what the GOP leadership has always CLAIMED were their values but never delivered on.
If the current GOP leadership is able to take over the Presidency and Congress, we will have the same old crap. They won’t institute new leftist programs and may rescind a few the Democrats created, but the ESSENCE of the inevitable drift leftwards will remain.
That is no longer acceptable!!!
We want a revitalized and reinvigorated GOP which will bring America BACK to its political and cultural roots, BACK to the concept of limited government, back to the values of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan and even Teddy Roosevelt. Back to the vision of the UNABASHEDLY patriotic and God-Fearing Founders of this Republic.
And Michael Steele, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, etc simply have neither the will, nor the guts nor the intellect nor the vision to accomplish it.
Thanks for the ping!
