HA HA HA, the Raiders continue to entertain in a “rubberneck at a car accident as your drive by” kind of way.

If Leach’s solution to college kids with bad attitudes is to lock them in a shed, how’s he going to handle overpaid prima donna pro athletes?

Imho Leach would fit into the zaniness in Oakland.

But he would need experienced coordinators, and Oakland has become a career killer, even talented coaches such as Rob Ryan could not hack it in the Asylum and wound up in Cleveland were he is about to be fired...along with “mangenious”.

Well, he's already had the right eye patch thing going, and a pirate shtick, which are like raiders, right?

Leach might be successful there if he could lock Al Davis in a broom closet while personnel decisions are being made.

He also attended Cal Poly SLO, so this is kind of his neck of the woods...

In Mike Leach, they get a quirky guy, but a pretty good football coach. Leach is best known for his innovative, pass happy offense that has lit up the Big 12 South for the past 10 seasons. It is no secret that Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis loves the vertical passing game. From that perspective, hiring Leach should be a match made in heaven.

I'm amazed that the Raiders are able to get anyone interested in their HC position, even this guy. It's not a job where coaches can win - even if Al Davis could be persuaded to turn over control of player personnel, he'll punish any head coach who actually wins in spite of him simply because he can't stand being overshadowed. Just ask Jon Gruden.

Leach’s gimmicky offense, his lack of a coherent defense and his penchant for going on 4th down all over the field would spell disaster in the NFL. Not to mention that Leach’s offense is almost the antithesis of the “vertical passing game”. It’s almost the “horizontal passing game” although the last success the Raiders had was when they used the West Coast Offense which is another system that emphasizes short passes.

Leach would certainly be an entertaining thought while in Oakland but he might also make the worst transition from college to pro since Steve Spurrier.

I’d be happy for Leach *IF* Davis let him do what he wanted in terms of player personnel. No way Leach would keep jamarcus Russell. Since Davis didn’t like Tom Cable’s remarks against Russell, I doubt Leach will be a serious contender. Davis will only hire a coach who thinks Russell is a good QB. Good luck with that!

Leach nor his system would work in the pros.

He's too unpredictable for a league that fines Ochocinco on a weekly basis.

Additionally, his system relies on yards-after-catch which is much easier on the college level. His receivers would be beaten up within a matter of weeks in the NFL given the level of speed and size of DB's.
