Now that both the House and Senate have passed health care reform bills, all Democrats have to do is work out a compromise between the two versions. And it appears theyre not about to let the Republicans gum up the works again.
According to a pair of senior Capitol Hill staffers, one from each chamber, House and Senate Democrats are almost certain to negotiate informally rather than convene a formal conference committee. Doing so would allow Democrats to avoid a series of procedural steps--not least among them, a series of special motions in the Senate, each requiring a vote with full debate--that Republicans could use to stall deliberations, just as they did in November and December.

The list, ping
No Americans allowed.
Very translucent.
Republicans play nice, democrats play steel-caged death matches.
In this case, it will probably be liberals that kill this bill. The Nutjobs in the House will insist on a public option and this will be even too much for the Nelsons in the Senate.
As a result, no Conference Committee can be appointed -- and each chamber must consider the other chamber's bill. If one chamber successfully amends and passes the other chamber's bill, it must then be re-approved by the originating chamber.
So, it becomes a case of:
1. The House reconciling itself to the Senate bill -- with no publc option, a patently silly (and unconstitutional) individual insurance mandate and publicly-funded abortion (Ben Nelson notwithstanding).
2. Or the Senate reconciling itself to the House bill -- with a public option and a continued ban on publicly-funded abortion (per Stupak).
There's enough conflict there that the Republicans don't really need to be involved in this fight.
Where are McConnell and Bohnoer on this? They should be holding press conferences, blasting it on every news station - but no they are playing THE Go-A-Long Get-A-Long, we are all friends even if we disagree on somethings Crap-Olla sleaze game.
They are and the American people, all of us, screwed up royally in allowing such awful people to gain a super-majority Congress.
Don’t forget Acorn had something to do with that super-majority. Although I do agree with you.
thank you, this is what I have been saying.
Don't think that Stupak won't sell out. He has admitted that he may vote for the bill without any of his amendments. Check out this video:
Rep. Bart Stupak speaking in Cheboygan, MIThe bill has been a done deal for a long time, IMHO.
You’ve got to give them credit they know how to use power when they have it. Unlike the Republicans who like to include the minority in all decision to promote bi-partisanship.
That is a good description.
Bastards.
The GOP is like Charlie Brown and the football. Pathetic. Then of course if they vehemently oppose the left’s radical policies, they get called racist elite obstructionists.
No Republicans allowed on TNR. You have to be a subscriber to post on TNR. 3rd post after the article said something about getting immediate coverage once the bill is signed.
They are going to be surprised.
No Legislation without Representation
May the world come crashing down on all of them
They have no shame, just an agenda.
To destroy this nation.
Correct. That's why the 'Rats and ACORN worked so hard to steal that Senate seat in MN. They knew once they had Frankenscum in the Senate, this was a done deal. The 'Rats are going to ram this through. It's what they do. And they'll say to hell with the consequences for the 2010 elections. This is their chance to implement the biggest socialist scheme in the modern era. They'll do it for the glory of their God Obama, everything and everyone else be damned.
I am shocked I tell you. Shocked.
